The wait is over. Max has finally given us a release window for the hotly anticipated second season of The Last of Us (albeit not an exact date), and we have just a few more months to go until we reunite with Joel and Ellie.

Adapted from the popular video game of the same name from developer Naughty Dog, The Last of Us first hit our screens in 2023.

Following a global pandemic that has destroyed civilization, we meet Joel, who takes it upon himself to look after a 14-year-old girl named Ellie, who may be humanity's last hope.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey lead the eight-time winning series, which will return for season two in April.

Max has released the first extended preview of season two, which opens on an eerie hallway that has a siren ringing through it.

Emerging in the frame is Kaitlyn Dever, who stars as Abby.

From there, we get a dramatic sequence of quickfire shots, from a bell ringing through the snow to fires burning and horses dashing through icy landscapes, culminating in a flare from which "Season II April" emerges through the haze.

What will happen in The Last of Us Season 2?

While details of precisely what will happen are being kept under wraps, the video game The Last of Us 2 takes place four years after the original and follows Ellie on a revenge quest through Seattle.
