Tom Cruise may be embracing bizarre freezing rituals to try and stay youthful, but he’s still plagued with droopy bags under his eyes – plunging the self-obsessed superstar in a major tizzy, a source exclusively tells In Touch.
“He hates the idea of going under the knife because he’s terrified that it could leave him looking like a caricature of himself, he’s seen so much bad plastic surgery in his time,” the source says. “Don’t forget he had that chipmunk cheek nightmare when he got talked into getting filler in his face and it took months to go down, he was humiliated.”
“But he’s tried every possible non-invasive procedure to get rid of his under-eye bags and nothing has really helped.”
The aging A-lister, 62, has begun taking his anti-wrinkle crusade to dangerous new levels, worrying those in his circle, with a different source previously saying, “Biohacking is one of Tom’s big passions,” referencing the Top Gun actor’s new cryotherapy habit.
In the pursuit of youth, Tom has reportedly been immersing himself in freezing or near-freezing temperature water for a few minutes at a time, which can allegedly reduce inflammation, tighten skin, support fat loss and fight chronic disease.
“He swears that cold exposure is the fountain of youth, and thinks people are living in the dark ages if they don’t embrace the latest methods for increasing longevity,” the source said.
“He’s been into ice baths for a number of years, but he’s now stepped it up and gotten a cryotherapy chamber for his home, so that he can literally freeze himself every day as a way to boost his metabolism and slow down the aging process. He’s convinced that it gives him an edge, and says it’s better than drinking ten cups of coffee in the morning.”
However, Maverick’s ice man routine apparently isn’t treating a particularly sour insecurity of the star – the deep bags under his eyes that threaten to reveal his true age, regardless of how taught he can manage to get the rest of his face.
“It’s a nightmare because his face is his moneymaker,” the first source continues. “He needs to look good on camera. Everyone is telling him to bite the bullet and just get them fixed. It’s a quick surgery and pretty well everyone these days does it, but Tom is still holding out.”
As a different source previously dished to In Touch, “The reality is that his skin’s starting to sag a lot more and his limbs are starting to creak. It’s a declining situation that he refuses to accept.”
Without taking the more standard Hollywood anti-aging route, friends fear the Edge of Tomorrow star may be putting himself in too much danger – and this time not with his on camera stunts, but his at-home icing!
The first source says he still hasn’t found the answer, though, which may mean a nip/tuck in the Eyes Wide Shut actor’s near future.
“He’s frantically looking into other, less invasive ways of fixing his under-eye bags. He spends a fortune on serums and topical treatments, and he’s always trying out the latest gadgets but so far nothing is working and he’s fixated on it.”
