Tom Hanks has revealed fans are constantly shouting his famous lines at him - and he loves it when they do.
The 68-year-old Hollywood star is a two-time Academy Award winner - and has been nominated a total of six times. He has appeared in iconic movies including Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, for which he won the best actor awards, and continues to enjoy a big screen career that began in 1980.
Having featured in some of the most celebrated films in Hollywood history, Tom says he is frequently confronted by enamoured fans who shout lines at him. But far from finding the forceful interaction annoying, the legendary star has explained that he appreciates that his fans are just trying to connect with him.
Appearing on the NBC News morning show Today on Wednesday, Tom shared some of the classic lines he gets parroted back at him. “People yell a bunch of stuff at me, you know?” he explained.

'Houston, we have a problem,' [from Apollo 13] and 'Ride like the wind, Bullseye' [from “Toy Story 2]... ’Run, Forrest! Run!’ It’s all — no, no, no, no. ‘Shrimp sandwich.’ All of that — no, all of that stuff is great.”
Sharing his happiness about the recognition, the actor continued: "No. It’s all great... When someone yells out something from a movie, it’s like they — ‘Here, here’s a nickel, Tom,’ you know? ‘I’m going to pay you back for that line.’ Yeah, you store up enough, you end up being a pretty wealthy guy."
Tom's positive feedback comes after fans complained that one of his recent films has been wrongly billed as a comedy - only to contain devastating scenes. The actor played Otto Anderson in the 2022 film A Man Called Otto which has found a new audience after it became available to stream via Netflix earlier this month.

But casual film fans were left in tears after they settled down to watch the flick while expecting to be confronted with laughs. One streaming viewer complained on X: “I was trying to find a movie to watch on Netflix, so under the COMEDY category I chose the movie A Man Called Otto not knowing what it was about and now I’m bawling my freaking eyes out with that."
Based on the bestselling novel A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman and directed by Quantum of Solace director Marc Foster, the movie sees Tom play a cranky pensioner who falls into a deep depression following the death of his wife. However, his life is turned upside down when his new neighbours arrive, including the family’s heavily pregnant matriarch Marisol, and unknowingly prevent him from trying to hang himself. He then inadvertently saves the life of another man as he tried to jump in front of a train - and discovers a new zest for life thanks to Marisol and her children.
