Breakfast TV exercise icon Mr Motivator has slammed the current crop of morning shows for their lack of fitness content accusing them of "missing the trick".
The star, real name Derrick Evans, was a staple on GMTV, which was ITV's former breakfast show, from 1993 to 2000, taking the viewers through daily quick and fun exercise routines before they left the house.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk he expressed his disappointment that shows have done away with the concept of an exercise segment saying people need the encouragement.
"I think television honestly have missed the trick, because the audience watching needs those little five minutes of encouragement. Without that reminder, they don't do it and instead, what it becomes is a bit like a joke, when, in fact, I don't joke about health.
"Those little subtle reminders of saying, 'Listen, if you just get up from that chair for a few moments and sit back down (after the exercise), you're going to feel better about yourself', needs to happen, and television doesn't provide it," he said.
He continued: "That bugs me. I really think it's something - that the health of our nation we have got to take it seriously.
"Because the NHS is stretched, because too many people have conditions that could be slowed down if they were moving lot more.
"So therefore, we need to remind them, encourage them, give them those little tasters. And that's how habits are formed.
"We give people in small, little goals to achieve, and what happens those goals then become habits, and there you are. It's a bit like brushing your teeth. That's how you should be when it comes to exercise and movement."
Looking far younger than his 72 years, he is still going strong. He regularly appears in front of tens of thousands of people at festivals encouraging them to take five minutes to move. He also puts people through their paces on cruises and runs his own online classes.
His latest venture is teaming up with HomeServe, the home assistance provider for their Home Stretch campaign to raise awareness of the impotance of home upkeep in order to be prepared for any shocks such as losing hot water or frozen pipes.
Speaking about why he got involved in the initiative he said: "Well, I think, essentially there is a correlation with the way we look after ourselves in terms of our health and pre planning and insurance.
"Exercise is really important because once you have put (the lifestyle) in place, all the exercises that you need to keep yourself alive, keep yourself, independent, keep yourself free, for so many different conditions it pays off when you need it.
"And I think same thing when it comes to your home. If you put in place all the insurances, then when bad weather comes along, you are prepared. So what we try and do is draw attention to what people should all be doing, every one of us should be doing, and that is pre planning and making sure that we are prepared for any eventuality."
Mr. Motivator has shared six yoga-inspired poses and practical tips aimed at making home upkeep feel achievable and stress-free, helping homeowners avoid larger issues down the road on the HomeServe website.
