Taylor Swift stans apparently have their sights set on Tyler, the Creator.
On Thursday, Tyler revealed that Swifties are trying to cancel him for old lyrics. He addressed this issue during a surprise show for Boston fans to celebrate the release of his new album, Chromakopia.
“I got Swifties all mad at me with they racist ass. Bringing up old lyrics, bitch, go listen to 'Tron Cat'— don't give a fuck,” he said, from atop the Converse Flagship Store. “They gon bring out the old me.”
Specifically, the Swifties had an issue with him taking the No. 1 spot on the global Spotify Top Artist chart this week after the release of Chromakopia. It broke Swift’s 698-day run at the top.
"Tron Cat" appeared on Tyler’s 2011 album Goblin, a song in which he raps about assaulting pregnant women, masturbation, and domestic violence à la Chris Brown. On the Goblin album cut, "Fish," Tyler namedrops Swift, rapping about them having sex.
He also mentioned on the Chromakopia track "Thought I Was Dead" that he’s pretty much immune to being canceled, regardless of how problematic he’s been in the past. “Pull up old tweets, pull up old t-shirts, all that, I moonwalk over that bitch (Hee-hee),” he says in the second verse.
This is an age-old topic for the Golf Le FLEUR designer who, on 2021's Call Me If You Get Lost album cut, “Manifesto,” raps, “Internet bringin' old lyrics up, like I hide the shit / What’s your address? I could probably send you a copy, bitch / I was canceled before canceled was with Twitter fingers / Protestin' outside my shows, I gave them the middle finger / I was a teener, tweetin' Selena crazy shit / Didn’t wanna offend her, apologize when I seen her.”
