Virgin River wouldn’t be the same without Jack and Mel’s love story, but some fans feel their chemistry isn’t as strong as it once was.

When the Netflix series first premiered in 2019, viewers were immediately drawn to the undeniable connection between Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge). Their roller coaster yet heartwarming romance has been keeping the fans emotionally invested over the years.

From the start, Jack and Mel’s love story has drawn fans in. Mel moves to Virgin River for a fresh start after losing her husband and baby, not expecting to find love - but it finds her.

Their relationship isn’t easy at first, as they navigate Mel’s grief and Jack’s complicated past with Charmaine.

Their on-and-off again relationship, is filled with real-life struggles which feels authentic and relatable, resulting in their growing chemistry being portrayed on screen.

However, as the series has progressed and the couple get married, some viewers feel their relationship has become too predictable.

On Reddit, one fan admitted: "I fast forward through their scenes now. They’re in love, I get it! Now that their relationship has culminated in marriage, I find myself less interested in their plotline."

Another viewer suggested that the issue isn’t a lack of chemistry between Jack and Mel but rather that they seem too perfect and put-together, making them less relatable.

They compared them to a "star quarterback and head cheerleader" - as Jack has a popular bar and Mel a successful nurse - whereas couples like Brie and Brady feel more real because they struggle, make mistakes, and "are still in the exciting will they, won’t they phase."

Despite the criticism, many fans still adore Jack and Mel’s relationship. One viewer defended the couple, writing, “I love them together. They are so good at communicating and resolving issues, and they’re both so kind.”
