Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright appears to be working hard to wrap up her divorce from her estranged husband, Jax Taylor, quickly, In Touch can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Brittany, 35, informed the court that she turned over a list of her current monthly income and expenses to Jax, 45.
In addition, she provided him a list of her assets and debts, along with another list of what she determined to be separate property and community property.
The exchange of financial documents is usually required by the court before the case can be finalized.
As In Touch previously reported, Brittany filed for divorce on August 27 after five years of marriage. She had a process server head out to Jax’s new apartment in North Hollywood to serve him the paperwork the same day.
Jax moved out of the home he shared with Brittany following the breakup. Brittany listed the date of separation as January 24.
In her petition, she asked the court to award her primary legal and physical custody of their 3-year-old son, Cruz. She proposed that Jax be awarded visitation with their son. Brittany asked the court to not award spousal support to her or Jax.
As In Touch first reported, Jax filed a response at Brittany’s petition without the help of a lawyer.
He cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. He listed the date of separation as September 26, not January 24, as Brittany listed in her paperwork. Jax said he agreed that Brittany should be awarded primary custody of their son but did not indicate his opinion on spousal support.
Jax hired Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline’s longtime lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, after initially representing himself in the matter.
After In Touch broke the story, Jax’s rep quickly issued a statement saying the reality star made “errors” on his paperwork in regard to custody.
The rep said, “Jax and Brittany have already long resolved all matters related to custody of Cruz, and will continue to work together privately for the best interest of their son, which remains their overriding concern.”
The rep added, “While Jax made errors in filling out forms that are usually done by trained legal professionals, those errors will be amended without delay.”
Jax amended his response to request joint legal custody and checked the box stating “other” in regard to physical custody. Jax also asked the judge to award him all property he acquired by gift and all property he earned before and after the separation.
His lawyer wrote, “The exact nature and extent of Respondent’s separate property assets and obligations are currently undetermined. [Jax] will seek leave of court to amend the Response or file appropriate pleadings when said separate property assets and obligations are ascertained.”
Jax and Brittany were first linked in 2015. They got engaged in 2018 and wed the following year.
The duo is currently starring on the Vanderpump Rules spinoff The Valley, which recently wrapped filming for season 2.
Earlier this year, Jax announced he had completed treatment for mental health issues.
He told his fans, “A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself. After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD.”
