The internet has fallen in love with a golden retriever trying his best to understand what he was looking at when he encountered a crab at the beach.
Bubba lives with his owner, Lisa Leonardi, in Louisiana, with his two golden siblings, Rosie and Polly. Business owner Leonardi regularly shares life with her goldens to her TikTok account, @alongcamepollyrosiebubba, and to Facebook under the same name, where the dogs have amassed a huge following.
Recently, Leonardi, 53, took Bubba for a walk along the beach, when he "spotted a giant sand crab," Leonardi told Newsweek. "This was the first time he came upon a crab and he was trying to figure what it was all about."
A video of Bubba and the crab was shared to Leonardi's account on October 27, showing the golden continually trying to sniff at the creature, first trying to play with it but quickly backing off as the crab snapped its claws. All the while, Leonardi narrated the clip, humorously telling Bubba he's "playing with fire" and telling him to "let that little guy alone."
Bubba didn't back down, however, and barked continuously at the crab, while wagging his tail and jumping up playfully, not knowing how to approach the creature.
Eventually, the crab won out, and Leonardi held Bubba in place allowing the creature to crawl away.
TikTok users loved the interaction, with the video gaining over 60,000 views, as one commenter joked Bubba was "so brave."
"Crab was like 'you don't mess with me'," another wrote, as one called it a "crabbucino" and another declared: "Love this!"
Leonardi, who owns jewelry business Lakeview Pearl and a dog hat shop adorably named The Bubbacini Boutique, told Newsweek she had always wanted a golden retriever, but her ex-husband wouldn't allow it.
So, after their split, she promptly got three.
Bubba joined the family in 2020, after Leonardi's daughter came home from college to study online during the pandemic and suggested they get a sibling for their other goldens.
Bubba used to be called Finn, but "we figured out pretty quickly that he was no Finn. So we changed his name to the Bubba he is," Leonardi told Newsweek.
"So we now call him Bubba or Bubbacini -- because he's Italian!"
Golden retrievers have long been a popular choice for families across the United States, with the American Kennel Club (AKC) noting the breed's devotion towards family and high level of intelligence making them an adaptable, easily trainable pet.
