The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees engage in one of the most competitive and heated rivalries in all of sports. This rivalry dates back decades and the fire between the two sides has burned the entire time.
But this winter, that rivalry is even more special. And it's not because the two sides are fighting for a playoff berth or for the American League East title. They're fighting for something that's arguably more important than either of those two things: superstar outfielder Juan Soto.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post is reporting that the Red Sox are increasing the heat on Soto this offseason as they look to steal the superstar from the Bronx.
"The Red Sox are increasingly seen as a legitimate contender in the sweepstakes for the generational slugger as word is they are stepping up efforts to lure the superstar hitter away from their historic AL East nemesis," Heyman wrote. "Sources say the Red Sox are attempting to sell Soto on his fit in Boston — a fit both at Fenway Park and within the history of the franchise."
Boston is pulling out all the stops to try to bring Soto in, and it just might work.
Boston is leveraging the fact that it has a top farm system to prove to Soto that it'll be a World Series contender for years to come. Boston has the top prospect in baseball, four of the top 25 prospects, and six of the top 100 prospects, per MLB Pipeline. The Red Sox also have a talented young core at the big-league level, led by Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran.
If the Red Sox miss on Soto, it won't be for lack of effort. Stealing him from the hated Yankees would be quite the story going into 2025.
