"Yes, I've Had A Lot Of Good Sex": Billie Eilish Got Verrrrry Candid In A New Interview, So Here Are 21 Things She Revealed

4 hours ago 3

"I can’t really think about it too much because it’ll make me cry, and then it’ll also give me an existential crisis."

If you're a Billie Eilish fan to any degree, you know about her famous annual interviews with Vanity Fair. She does the exact same interview every year, with the same questions — all while reacting to the answers she gave when she was younger.

Well, get ready to feel old, because the first interview was in 2017 and the last one just came out — meaning we're now on the EIGHTH YEAR. As a Billie fan who remembers the first interview vividly, this shocked me to my core.

I'll also have you know, we didn't get an interview last year, but she did FILM it. So we were deprived of an interview for a whole year.

And in this year's interview, Billie did NOT disappoint, revealing tons of interesting details about her year. And I'm telling you, it's fascinating whether you're a Billie fan or not. So here goes my handy little recap:

1. In one of the first clips, Billie says her age — 22 at the time of filming, but she's now 23. "This is the first year in my life that I keep forgetting how old I am," she explains.

I mean, same, girl.

2. In a discussion about her biggest accomplishments of the year, winning her second Oscar for "What Was I Made For?" was a huge one. "I kind of can’t believe that happened again," she says, noting that she's now the youngest person to win two Oscars. "I feel proud of it. I’m proud to have made it."

3. In a clip from two years ago, Billie says, "I really wanna do […] things that I could die because of," like bungee jumping and skydiving. And 2024-Billie reacts to this with a thumbs up, indicating that she has indeed done some death-defying activities this year.

I, personally, had no clue she was that big of a risk-taker.

4. And in case there are any super-fans out there — or anyone who's super interested in tattoos — Billie reveals that she's gotten more tattoos this year too.

5. Billie also reveals she's made a lot more connections as of late. "I’ve done nothing but make friends all year, and gotten so close with people that I wasn’t with before, and became friends with people I used to be friends with again," she says. Billie notes that her year was "filled with friendship," which was the one thing she wanted most in previous years.

6. In response to another goal she made last year — where she said she wants to have "good sex" in the future — Billie replies, "Yes, I’ve had a lot of good sex. So, you’re welcome, Billie."

7. Billie opens up about her teeth being a big insecurity — there's even a clip of her calling them "ugly" in a previous year. "I chipped another tooth," she said this year. "So not only did I not fix the other chip, but I also chipped another one." She pointed out where her chips are.

A good reminder that all people have insecurities!

8. In a clip from last year, Billie discusses not wanting to do anything doesn’t want to do — and not letting other people take away her "sparkle." This year, she says she’s stuck to her goal. "I really trust myself, and I think, like, especially that 2022 girl, I don’t think I trusted her. So I really trust myself now, and I’m not gonna let any of that happen again."

This one is particularly interesting, because in 2022, Billie was dating The Neighbourhood's Jesse Rutherford.

You might also remember that a clip from the 2022 interview, where Billie says she "pulled his ass," gained a ton of mixed comments at the time. The relationship was a super controversial one, partially because of their 10-year age difference.

9. And this miiiiight give some more context to that 2022 clip — because right after, Billie talks about how "scary" falling in love is. "It’s hard to know what’s going on, because you’re kind of blinded by this curtain of lust and love and admiration," she said, noting that she’s been "cautious" as of recent.

This might also reference Jesse Rutherford, but she doesn't name any names, so we of course can't know for sure.

10. And OK, this is a big one. Billie said her favourite artist of the year is none other than Lady Gaga. "Like, old Lady Gaga. It’s so good. ‘Alejandro’ and ‘Poker Face’ and ‘G.U.Y.’ and ‘Born This Way.’"

Girl's got taste.

11. Along those lines, she said her favourite movie of the year is Secretary, the 2002 romcom starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, along with Fruitvale Station. The latter, she's mentioned as her fave in previous interviews, but Secretary is a new addition.

12. Of course, Billie released her third studio album this year, Hit Me Hard and Soft. And actually, she says that making the album was "such a drag." "It was so punishing," she admits. "But I feel like it is the best thing that Finneas and I have ever made."

“Anytime somebody that I thought was really cool said they listened to my music, I [used to] get all embarrassed and nervous and kind of frustrated and annoyed, honestly. I’d be like, 'No, don’t listen to that. That’s private,'" she remembers.

"And I think I wasn’t as proud of it, and I think that now in my life and where I am in my career, I really stand for my music. Like, I feel really proud of it.”

13. In a clip from last year, we see Billie predict which songs would be popular — and TBH, she totally nailed it. "There’s this one song called ‘Lunch’ that I think people might like a lot," 2023 Billie says. "There’s a song called ‘Birds of a Feather.’"

“I thought ‘Lunch’ would be the hit, but I also remember being like, ‘But watch, ‘Birds of a Feather’ is gonna end up being the real hit,'" 2024-Billie says.

14. A big topic in this year's video was touring, since Billie is currently on the road. "Touring used to be something that was extremely unpleasant," she revealed, "and I would only dread it. And the only reason I, you know, did it at all was because I loved performing, and I always have." So yeah, we learned Billie used to not like touring.

"And even when I dreaded those tours, and hated the whole process, I loved performing at the end of the day."

15. But she's recently changed her tune. "I had this moment like a year ago, where I was kind of like, ‘Touring doesn’t have to be miserable. And I don’t have to just sit through it and take it. I can make it fun. I mean, I’m the fucking boss, for God’s sake!’" So she sat down with her team and figured out "ways to make [touring] fun." "I don’t want to be so tortured by it that I end up never doing it again because I am resentful," she says.

“For the first time in my life, once again, the words are coming out of my mouth that are, ‘I wish this tour would never end.’”

16. Billie reacts to a clip of her from 2017, where she says her biggest show ever at the time was 500 people. "I can’t really think about it too much because it’ll make me cry," 2024-Billie says, "and then it’ll also give me an existential crisis. But I can’t believe the way my life has gone."

17. In response to a question about which artist she’d love to collab with, 2023-Billie says, "No one. You listeners don’t understand how unpleasant it is to collaborate with people. It is not a fun experience."

Since Vanity Fair recorded Billie's annual interview last year but never released it, we didn't see this 2023 clip until now.

18. And then a photo of Billie with Charli xcx, who she did indeed collab with this year, came on the screen…so Billie discusses how the collab with Charli was her "ideal way" — in that it was very quick, and didn’t require much extra work.

Essentially, “Guess” was already written and released by Charli xcx before their collab. Finneas talked to one of Charli’s “teammates” at her show, and they asked if Billie would be down to collab. Then, Billie and Finneas wrote and recorded her verse — just the two of them — and “sent it back.” Billie says they shot the video “two days later,” and it was edited and released within a week.

“It was the craziest, fastest — like, that is the dream.”

19. In relation to the "Guess" collab, too, Billie revealed that their collab "was going to be another song." But in the end, of course, they decided on "Guess," a song Billie called "hot."

BUT OF COURSE NOW I'M WONDERING WHAT THE OTHER SONG WAS.

20. Sorry, one last Charli xcx one…Billie reacted to a clip of her from the 2017 interview that was soooo meta. In the clip, 2017-Billie holds up a photo of her and Charli xcx, because it was the most-liked photo on Billie’s Instagram at the time. And now, seven years later, they collabbed for the first time. "Wow, that’s so funny! Full circle, huh?" Billie said.

21. Billie talked about some interesting discrepancies in the rumours that circulate about her — particularly when it comes to dating. "Literally any man that I am near, it’s like, ‘That’s Billie’s boyfriend.’ It’s weird, because I’m actually photographed more with women, and way more incriminating photos of me with women than men, and they’re like, ‘Billie and her best friend!’"

"It’s really funny. It’s so weird," she says.
