Ariana Grande's 'real-name' revealed as she uses it in Wicked movie credits

Pop star Ariana Grande has opted to use her full name for the credits of her role in Wicked as she gears up for the hotly-anticipated movie's release later this month

Ariana Grande has decided to use her full name in the credits for upcoming movie Wicked.

The pop star, 31, is starring in the hotly-anticipated film alongside Cynthia Erivo. It is a Hollywood version of the popular stage musical of the same name, which in turn is an adaptation of the novel published in 1995, written by Gregory Maguire. Wicked is a reimagining of characters and setting of the classic Wizard of Oz.

However, it is told from the perspective of two witches before Dorothy's arrival in the mystical land. Ariana is set to feature as Galinda Upland, who becomes Glinda the Good Witch while Cynthia stars as Elphaba Thropp, a green-skinned woman who will eventually turn into the Wicked Witch of the West.

It has now been confirmed Ariana has opted to swap her stage name for her full name on the movie's credits. She will be referred to as 'Ariana Grande-Butera' according to E! News. Ariana's full name incorporates her mother's name, Joan Grande, as well as her father's name, Ed Butera. Her parents split when she was eight-years-old.

The Side to Side hitmaker has reconnected with her dad in recent years after they fell out of touch in 2013. In 2014, Ariana revealed it was "one of the hardest things" she has ever had to deal with. "It’s private … It took me so long to be okay with it," she explained to Seventeen magazine. "So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them."

Ariana touched on their relationship in her 2018 hit Thank U, Next. She sang: "One day I’ll walk down the aisle/ holding hands with my mama/ I’ll be thanking my dad ’cause she grew from the drama." However, she has also detailed her mending her relationship with her dather as she posted a throwback photo with him in 2017 and captioned it: "I love you."

A year later, she shared a black and white photo on a video call with him during Christmas. In 2019, Ariana shard another photo of them together and wrote: "Foreva." Ariana changed the lyrics to her hit song in 2020 while at the Grammy's as she sang: "“I’ll be thanking my dad ’cause he’s really awesome," per Elle Magazine.

Critics who have attended an early screening for Wicked have been full of praise, and demanded that Ariana be considered for an Oscar. Reviewers writing for Variety said: "The 31-year-old pop star commands each of Glinda’s signature numbers, including a delightful rendition of Popular. But it’s her knack for comedic timing that makes her so memorable.

"Her delivery of various one-liners and zingers is one of the film’s highlights, potentially positioning her for a first-time Oscar nomination in the best supporting actress category." IndieWire declared: "Happy to confirm WICKED is the best musical-to-movie adaptation since CHICAGO and MAMMA MIA. Ariana Grande....is perfection!?"
