BBC Strictly Come Dancing slammed by charity over ‘cruel’ part of show

Strictly Come Dancing has been criticised by an animal rights charity over their continued use of feathers on costumes, according to The Sun.

PETA, otherwise known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is a non-profit organisation that aims to expose animal cruelty in the entertainment industry.

BBC Strictly bosses have come under fire this series from Vice President of Corporate Projects Yvonne Taylor, who has personally written to the show over the use of feathers used in costumes.

According to the Sun, she wrote: "Like many Brits, we love the dazzling dances Strictly Come Dancing brings to our screens, but we must spotlight one major concern: the series’ use of feathers.

"Real birds’ feathers are a product of extreme cruelty to animals and have no place on your dance floor. They are gory, not glamourous."

She later added in more detail: "Industry use of other birds – like pheasants, parrots, and peacocks – is shrouded in secrecy, breeding black market activity.

"Live plucking, which is common, causes birds immense pain and sometimes fatal injuries."

Express Online have contacted the BBC for comment.

In other news, Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts suspect that Dianne Buswell might bow out of the BBC sensation after the current series.

The 35 year old professional dancer, currently teamed with Chris McCausland, made her debut on the programme in 2017. With rumours swirling that the pair could clinch the Glitterball trophy, fans are speculating this might be Buswell's final dance.

One observer aired their thoughts online: "I would say Dianne might leave this year, especially if she wins."

Echoing the sentiment, another added: "Now that you've said it, it does seem likely that this could be Dianne's last hurrah. Not only because of her massively popular partnership with Chris but also because she's been getting a lot of prominent roles in the pro numbers."

Strictly Come Dancing resumes on Saturday on BBC One.
