What Is ‘Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?’ About?

The three-part docuseries reexamines the 1996 disappearance and murder of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, a former pageant star.

The Joe Berlinger-directed docuseries “scrutinizes the missteps of law enforcement and the media, highlighting the relatively straightforward measures that could potentially solve this haunting mystery,” according to Netflix’s synopsis. “As the series unfolds, it poses a critical question: Will Colorado authorities finally take the necessary actions to bring JonBenét Ramsey’s killer to justice and offer her family the peace they’ve long sought?”

What Happens in the ‘Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?’ Trailer?

The trailer began with home videos of JonBenét as a woman explained in a voiceover that her murder “was a case that people couldn’t stop talking about” and “some people don’t think it’s ever gonna be solved.”

“Prior to Christmas day of 1996, we were just a regular family,” JonBenét’s half-brother said before their father, John Ramsey, recalled the day that she died. “It was just … unbelievable,” he said.

The clip continued with several people sharing their thoughts on the case, noting that there were theories that someone snuck into their home to kidnap her. Meanwhile, others have speculated that JonBenét’s family was involved in her murder.

“If this case is ever going to be solved, we might be looking at the best chance right now,” another man said as clips from the investigation played. “We’ve been ruling people out for the wrong reasons. Everybody should be back on the table. You have to go deeper.”

The murder of JonBenét has still not been solved more than 28 years after her death, and the Ramsey family members have insisted they are innocent. They were cleared of any wrongdoing in 2008 after DNA evidence was found.

In August 2023, an insider exclusively told In Touch that John thought the police could do more to find out who killed JonBenét. “He believes that with new breakthroughs in technology, the case could be solved,” the source explained.

He has also questioned why police haven’t tested DNA from an unidentified male that was found on the garrote that was used to strangle JonBenét. “[I’m worried] the only logical reason they won’t commit to testing it anymore is because they lost it,” John previously told In Touch.
