Thanksgiving Day is traditionally when families across the country gather to feast on turkey, alongside fixings and sides like stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie and more.
However, with grocery store prices still high despite declining inflation, many families will have to do with less this year. Some might even consider going without that staple of the Thanksgiving meal: the turkey.
Fortunately, several stores are giving away Thanksgiving turkeys this year.
BJ's
Those who frequent their local BJ's are in luck this year because the retailer is offering a promotion for a free turkey.
To qualify, you had to have spent at least $150 in one transaction this month before November 14.
If you made a qualifying purchase, you'll gain the free turkey coupon in your BJ's app or website account. That promo is available to redeem until November 27, so you should act soon to get the best turkey available.
Turkeys at the store are eligible for the coupon as long as they are $25 or less.
Tops
New York-based supermarket Tops is offering customers a special Thanksgiving turkey deal.
Those who spent $100 on groceries in a shopping order before November 16 can get a $10 coupon at checkout toward a turkey you purchase. The $10 coupon applies to purchases from November 17 to 23.
Since the average Tops turkey is 48 cents per pound, the $10 freebie could cover a 20-pound turkey.
"I think we've really seen people watch how they're doing their spending," a Tops spokesperson told TV station WKBW in Buffalo, New York. "They're watching our ads. They're watching best deals on the favorite products they look for. They're making sure they're looking for their coupons."
Acme
Acme shoppers will need to spend at least $300 between October 18 and November 28 to qualify for the store's free frozen turkey deal.
If you make enough qualifying purchases, you'll get a Signature Farms turkey weighing between 10 and 22 pounds.
Just keep in mind that you'll need a Rewards account to apply, and the free turkey coupon will need to be activated before you spend the $300.
Albertsons
Albertsons joins the list of stores offering a free 16- to 20-pound turkey from Signature Farms.
The deal was available to those who spent $150 or more on one grocery order from November 13 to 19.
Giant
If you're a Giant rewards member, you can score a free turkey after collecting 400 rewards points.
Points are eligible if you earn them between October 1 and November 28, with every $1 earning one rewards point.
The deal covers a Shady Brook Farms turkey, at a maximum of 20 pounds. The deadline for the deal is November 28.
Hy-Vee
Midwestern supermarket Hy-Vee is offering shoppers a special deal for both a turkey and a ham.
The "buy a ham, get a turkey deal" is for a free Honeysuckle White frozen turkey up to 14 pounds when they buy a Hormel Cure 81 ham. The offer is good until November 30.
H-E-B
H-E-B has a special promotion for a 12-pound Riverside turkey for shoppers who purchase an H-E-B brand ham.
This was available until November 19 in more than 400 stores across Texas and Mexico.
ShopRite
ShopRite rewards members could also benefit this Thanksgiving. Members who spent at least $400 get a free holiday item.
That can include a Bowl & Basket turkey or a Cook's smoked ham. Empire roasting chickens and Stouffer's lasagnas are also eligible for purchase. The deal is valid between October 20 and November 28.
Other stores, like Wegmans, might not be offering a free Thanksgiving turkey, but they are working to lower costs for American families for the holiday. Based on the supermarket chain's prices, families will be able to purchase a Thanksgiving dinner for $6 per serving for eight people.
That includes the prices for products like the 13-pound Shady Brook Farms Frozen Turkey, McCormick Brown Gravy Mix, Wegmans Stuffing Mix and Wegmans Cranberry Sauce.
Aldi will give shoppers the chance to score a $47 Thanksgiving dinner bundle for 10, including a Butterball turkey, spices, gravy, bread, mac and cheese and stuffing. Also on the menu are the store's ingredients for a green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie.
Walmart has a similar deal for 29 products, which includes a 16-pound turkey and sides, plus pecan pie, for $56.
