Coronation Street fans gobsmacked as they realise school bully Mason has famous dad

Coronation Street star Luca Toolan, who plays the school bully Mason Radcliffe, has a very famous dad - and fans have only just realised the connection to the cobbles

Corrie's Luca Toolan took centre stage in Monday night’s tear-jerker when his character Mason Radcliffe was shockingly bumped off. The teen troublemaker turned good guy made waves when he first popped up in late 2023.

It turns out showbiz is in his veins – his old man Mike Toolan is a famous face, or better yet, voice, as the big dog at Hits Radio, spinning tracks alongside soap royalty like Corrie's own Brooke Vincent and Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson.

Not just thriving on the telly, Luca shares more than just DNA with his celeb dad – they also share digs. The cat came out of the bag for Street watchers when OK! shared the news after fans went wild online.

Following a nail-biting courthouse drama, proud papa Mike – who’s nattering away during drive time on Hits Radio – gave his Insta followers and X (the site that stepped in when Twitter bowed out) a peek at his lad in the dock with a cheeky: "Guilty! I knew it!", reports the Mirror.

He didn't stop there though, Mike was gushing over the whole Corrie crew: "What an episode @coronationstreet Bloody amazing acting all round [clapping emojis]. And Liam's face in the 2nd pic," which got a heart-warming "Cheers, Dad" from Luca. But leave it to Simon Gregson, the bloke we all adore as Steve McDonald, to chuck in some banter, ribbing: "I blame the parents here looks wrongun."

During his chat on This Morning back in February, Rochelle Humes couldn't hide her surprise at Luca's family ties, exclaiming: "I know your dad! Sorry, I didn't know it was that Mike! When we were in [The Saturdays] we used to do radio tours and we always used to see your dad. Sorry, that took me by surprise."

Since the cat's been let out of the bag, fans have been gobsmacked by the revelation. One fan gushed: "Luca Toolan who plays Mason on Corrie seems a nice lad. So it shows he's playing him well. I can't stand Mason but that's the point though isn't it."

Another added: "And he has a famous dad northerners will know him DJ Mike Toolan key 103 used to do think now it's called hits radio north west." Meanwhile, one sceptical fan pondered: "Would Luca Toolan have gotten the Corrie gig if his dad wasn't famous? " Another chimed in: "He's Mike Toolan's son, the radio DJ.. You may not have heard of him, but he looks like his dad.."

And yet another eagle-eyed fan boasted: "I knew it! ! ! I said to my wife sure thats Mike Toolan 's son . Well done all great to see!"
