Coronation Street's Sydney Martin has confessed to being "totally touched" after receiving a wave of affection from her co-stars and adoring public. The actress joined the ITV soap this year as Betsy Swain.
Corrie fans were left gobsmacked when it was revealed that Betsy is the daughter of DS Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, who grabbed the limelight in March after announcing her regular role on the show. Betsy has since stirred the pot for her mum on-screen, with the overworked DS struggling to connect with her troublesome teen following the tragic death of her partner and Betsy's other mum, Becky, in active service.
Off camera, Vicky and Sydney have forged a bond mimicking their on-screen roles, dishing out mutual admiration on socials. This week, Vicky didn't hesitate to back up her co-star against some shade thrown her way on X, after Sydney bagged a nomination for Best Soap Newcomer at the TV Choice Awards 2025 alongside another Corrie mate, Jack Carroll (Bobby Crawford).

When faced with a comments on X which critiqued Betsy's performance on screen, Vicky clapped back. She replied directly: "She's far from awful. Quite the opposite actually."
To which Sydney sweetly tweeted back: "Love you mama bear," reports the Manchester Evening News. Soon after, Vicky returned the favour, tweeting: "Love you more."
Corrie co-star Cait Fitton, who portrays Weatherfield's Lauren Bolton, didn't hold back her encouragement, commenting: "I am so proud of you Syd! You stay true to yourself, your beautiful self. Keep shining."
Sydney's fans also leapt to her defence. One wrote: "You are amazing Betsy is one of my favourite character in Corrie Sydney."
Another added: "You are doing incredible Sydney keep up the amazing work in Corrie proud of you can't wait to see more of Betsy." A third noted: "You're already such a talent, haters gonna hate but you're always going to prove them wrong."
After the outpouring of support, Sydney later took to responding with gratitude: "I'm so moved by all the lovely comments. You've all made my week, from the bottom of my heart – thank you, kindness is always the answer xxx."
