Heartbeat, the period drama series set in 1960s North Yorkshire, first graced ITV screens over 22 years ago.

The show, which followed the lives of Ashfordly and Aidensfield's police officers, medical staff and other residents, was a massive hit with viewers.

The beloved drama aired for an impressive 18 series from 1992 to 2010, making it one of ITV's top-rated and most cherished shows.

Despite no new episodes being produced for over 10 years, fans continue to enjoy the reruns on ITV3.

Heartbeat played a pivotal role in kick-starting the careers of numerous actors, many of whom went on to star in popular soaps, films and theatre productions.

Among these stars was Southport actor David Lonsdale, who portrayed the humorous character David Stockwell.

David, known for his comedic storylines, often centred on his clumsiness or gullibility, quickly became a fan favourite on Heartbeat and appeared on the show for over a decade.

He served as the right-hand man to Claude Greengrass, Vernon Scripps, and finally Peggy Armstrong.

Initially, the character lived with Claude Greengrass, and took over his home when he emigrated. Vernon Scripps then moved in with David until his departure from the series.

David's final house guest was Peggy Armstrong, affectionately known as “Aunt Peggy”.
