Pearl: Mia Goth stars in A24's official film trailer

Netflix fans are buzzing to watch a gruesome new thriller that has just landed on the streaming platform.

Pearl, starring Mia Goth, has been branded "demented and unnerving" by viewers that were deeply disturbed by the film's twisted plot. The film, which is the second instalment of Ti West's X film series, was first released back in 2022.

Now, Netflix audiences can enjoy the horror from the comfort of their own homes as the streaming giant offers Pearl to UK streamers for the first time.

At the time of the film's release, critics raved about the Mia Goth fronted flick with iNews reporting: "This demented, charming, Wizard of Oz-like horror is all the more disturbing because it doesn’t look like a horror movie."

The Observer branded Goth "riotoutsly entertaining" with "unnerving talent," while The Independent praised her "choked cry" and "glassy-eyed departure from reality". Cinemagoers were entranced by her performance and were quick to share their thoughts on social media.

One eager horror fan wrote: "Watched Pearl on Netflix and OMG. That was a buildup, love that in a horror film," while another said: "#Pearl on Netflix was CRA-ZY. If you like horror watch that immediately."

Peal follows the origin story of the film's self-titled villain. She dreams of becoming a movie star but instead begins committing violent atrocities on her family's farm in Texas back in 1918.

The X film series includes X, prequel film Pearl and sequel MaXXXine, following the lives of the two central characters - Maxine Max Minx and Pearl, both played by the talented Mia Goth.

The trilogy serves as a tribute to slasher films of the past and all three have been well received by critics and filmgoers alike. Other notable actors featured throughout the series include Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Scott Mescudi, Owen Campbell, Lily Collins, Halsey and Kevin Bacon.
