Loose Women star Denise Welch commented that “somehow” the controversy surrounding King Charles and Prince William will end up being blamed on Meghan Markle.
The King and the Prince of Wales have come under fire after it was revealed they make £50 million a year from taxpayer-funded royal rentals. An investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times found that the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall—both private estates—receive millions from contracts with public bodies and charities.
An article from The Times headline read: “The King and Prince William are funding their private lifestyles by secretly levying millions of pounds a year in charges from the armed forces, the NHS, state schools, charities, mining companies, and the general public.”
Carol Vorderman responded to the report on X, calling it “SHOCKING” and adding: “The Sunday @thetimes & #Dispatches investigation into the grubby & secretive earnings of the Royal Family, incl. charging huge rents to Marie Curie & Macmillan charities, WHICH THEY'RE PATRONS OF & which WE donate to. They get the money! The list is long. Follow @JCalvertST.”

Denise then added: “Somehow it'll be Meghan’s fault though!!!”
Under the comments, some agreed with Denise, with one person saying: “Oh yeah, just wait! There’ll be 100s of articles about Meghan, claiming she didn’t smile at a courtier or something.” Another added: “They’ll definitely blame Meghan to divert attention from the royals!”
This follows reports showing that King Charles and Prince William collect staggering sums from their private estates. Duchy collects £1.5 million a year in rent—totaling £37.5 million over 25 years—from HMP Dartmoor, a prison now empty due to unsafe radon gas levels in cells. Seven schools also reportedly pay the Duchy more than £600,000 in rent over the course of their leases.

The Duchy of Lancaster is a portfolio of land, property and assets across England and Wales held in trust for the Sovereign, including key urban developments, historic buildings, high-quality farm land and areas of great natural beauty, dating back to the 14th century.
The Duchy of Cornwall is a similar portfolio valued at more than £1 billion which provides an income for the heir to the throne.
