Although Allen was reportedly offered $US50 million (approx. $64 million) to do a ninth season of Home improvement, he turned it down to work on other endeavours, according to E!'s True Hollywood Story. He was paid $US1.25 million (approx. $1.6 million) per episode in the final season of the show.
Good call on the comedian's part. He went on to voice Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story film franchise, played a reluctant Saint Nick in The Santa Clause trilogy, and added a host of films to his resume, including Joe Somebody, Christmas with the Kranks and Wild Hogs.
Since 2011, Allen has starred and been an executive producer on the sitcom Last Man Standing, of which which ended in 2017.
The actor was married to actress and producer Laura Deibel from 1984 to 2003 and they share one child, daughter Katherine, now 32 years. Allen remarried in 2006 to actress Jane Hajduk and they too share one daughter, Elizabeth, 13.
After reprising his role as Santa Claus in the TV series The Santa Clauses in 2023, Allen is returning to his sitcom roots in 2025 with new family show Shifting Gears.
