Family buy ‘most expensive hotdog ever’ at Christmas Market after being charged £618 for two sausages

A family have told the story of how they bought the ‘most expensive hotdogs ever’ at a Christmas market in the UK.

Now, we all know that it’s no surprise that seasonal market food isn’t cheap like chips, and you’re probably going to have to fork out a few more bob to enjoy the novelty of it.

But sometimes it just takes the p*ss.

From mulled wine to German Frankfurters, only a Christmas market could provide the cosiness and costliness that comes with celebrating the upcoming festivities.

However, how much is too much?

You’d be surprised.

Laura Brumpton, 34, and her husband Alan, 37, were on the hunt to enjoy some hot dogs with their two kids in Nottingham, 14-year-old Ryley and 10-year-old Florence.

But it all went wrong.

It all began then the dad tapped his phone on the card reader machine without taking a double-check at the cost, and what he ended up spending for two sausages is insane.

Instead of the costly £18, he actually paid £618.

While the lady who sold the hotdogs appeared ‘apologetic’ and claimed to have refunded the £600, Alan’s bank balance is still looking worse for wear.

It’s been nearly a week since that day, so what’s the hold up?

Laura took to TikTok to share their story and it soon went viral.

In the clip, you can see the hotdog stand owner refunding her husband, with the lady claiming that she had 'refunded £600. I'm so sorry'.

Laura said: "They were the most expensive hotdogs ever.

"I was very shocked. I just couldn't believe it. £18 just for two hotdogs is a lot of money as well.”

She explained: "My husband just got his phone on apple pay and just tapped it. I don't even know if he looked at it. Just a habit of tap and she was like 'oh my god, I'm sorry'. It was £618.

"He checked his bank and it went straight away. I thought it would bounce straight away. I did think there was a £100 limit.”

However, she decided that she would try to find the funny side of it all and shared: "I jokingly said 'does that mean we get free sausages for the rest of the year'. I thought 'if I don't laugh about it…'"

Stating that the vendor claimed that the refund would take around ‘an hour’, the couple are still £600 down, and it’s not a great situation to be in right before Christmas.

Laura said that this was typical for her family, as they ‘have a lot of bad luck’.

The mum said: "It's just typical of our family. We have a lot of bad luck. And around this time of year. It's a bit of a thing - don't go out the house because anything could happen around Christmas.

"We were still charged for the sausages. I thought, especially because it was for the kids, I thought they'd at least get a free sausage.

"It was just a very expensive family day out. The kids actually said they tasted good."
