A video about a cat and a horse that are "in love" has captivated the hearts of millions of viewers on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @mgwelker and has garnered more than 6.2 million views since it was shared on November 22. The footage was taken in Kansas City, Missouri, according to a location shared with the post.
The footage shows a cat hanging from the edge of the top of a fence beside a horse. A note overlaid on the video says: "Getting a barn cat just to help with mice …"
The footage later shows the feline sitting on the horse's back while it moves around across the field. The cat is later shown walking around the horse's feet as a subsequent note across the screen reads: "And she ends up being your old retired horse's best friend."
The cat's apparent affection for her horse friend is not entirely surprising because research has shown that felines can become attached to other beings.
Previous research has shown that "adult cats are typically quite autonomous, even in their social relationships, and not necessarily dependent on others to provide a sense of security and safety," noted a September 2015 study in PLOS One.
However, a more recent study published in September 2019 in Current Biology found evidence that "cats display distinct attachment styles toward human caregivers."
The study said: "Research suggests we may be underestimating cats' socio-cognitive abilities.
"Cats, like dogs, can be found living in social groups or solitarily, depending on early developmental factors, resource distribution, and lifetime experiences such as human interaction," according to the study.
'The Most Precious Thing Ever'
Social-media users were touched by the unique bond between the cat and the horse in the viral clip.
JoKin said: "I love the bond between a cat and horse. I took care of a barn cat and horse that LOVED each other and it was the sweetest thing."
User tlc said: "The fact that he could just launch her into another planet when she's by his legs and doesn't … true love." The original poster replied that "they are in love haha."
Another user, known Just call me K, noted "the way they're just hanging out on the fence."

Abrianna Spice noted, "omg [oh my God], this is fricken adorable," and Stacie Elam posted: "Oh my heart! That is the best!"
