Granola Bar Recall Sparks Warning to Customers

2 weeks ago 10

Several varieties of MadeGood granola bars have been recalled over concerns that the bars may contain metal fragments.

MadeGood manufacturer Riverside Natural Foods announced in a notice posted to its website on Monday that the recall was issued due to "a very small risk that some of our granola bar products made between January and November 2024 may contain a piece of metal."

While there were no related reports of injuries, the company said the recall was being conducted "out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the well-being of our valued customers." MadeGood granola bars are sold throughout the United States, Canada and some European countries.

An additional recall notice posted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website on Tuesday states that the company is "working closely with retailers for the removal of recalled products from store shelves."

Newsweek reached out for comment to Riverside Natural Foods via email on Tuesday evening.

Southeastern supermarket chain Publix separately shared a notice informing customs that recalled MadeGood Mixed Berry, Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Drizzle Birthday Cake granola bar varieties were sold at Publix and Publix GreenWise Market stores.

All of the recalled items had "best by" dates ranging from 12/12/2024 to 2/25/2026. The company's website also provides detailed lists of recalled granola bars sold in Canada and Europe.

Customers were warned against eating the affected items and urged to return them for a refund at the point of purchase. A MadeGood Consumer Hotline can be reached at 855-215-5695 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.

Additional information shared online indicated that the company had "remedied the issue" following "an extensive investigation," while there was "no need to worry" for consumers who had already eaten the granola bars.

"The piece of metal is a small, flat brush bristle, and highly unlikely to be present in our products," the company said. "We received seven complaints out of the hundreds of millions of bars sold, and no injuries have been reported."
