Superhero fans are marvelling at the new trailer for the latest Superman film.
The latest adaptation of the comic has been long in the making following the strikes that hit Hollywood last year. However, the film is now gearing up for its big release in July next year.
However, fans have been left blindsided after regular Superman actor Henry Cavill was no longer rocking the tight-fit superhero costume. Instead, the role will now be played by up-and-coming actor David Corenswet, with actress Rachel Brosnahan taking on the part of Lois Lane.
The first look at the new film came out on Thursday (December 19) with a two-minute trailer being released by DC Studios' Youtube channel. The trailer sees Superman crash down into Earth and look at his life before moving to New York to work at the Daily Planet.
Fans watching the trailer also got the first look at Superman's trusted companion Krypto the Superdog, who makes his first appearance in the trailer as Superman lays bloodied in the snow. Superman pleads with Kypto to take him home, and his canine friend has no problems in doing so, grabbing his cape and dragging him back to civilisation.
The film's trailer gives a general idea of what the film might entail, including big battles across the world, collapsing buildings, mythical creatures and former Skins star Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of evil baddie Lex Luthor. Fans getting their first glimpse of the trailer were thrilled and heaped praise for the inclusion of Superman's four-legged friend.
"When Superman whistled for Krypto, I got chills," penned one thrilled viewer. "Great trailer," wrote another, "seeing Superman ask for help [from Krypto], and to go HOME was beautiful."
A third joked: "Krypto really be that loyal dog leading you home after a drunken night." Whilst a fourth user said: "Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's a dog!"
Other users were excited by the acting chops teased by David and Nicholas in the teaser. One fan wrote: "This honestly looks amazing; Nicholas looks like a great Lex [..] David obviously has the right kind of vibe for a compelling Superman."
David Corenswet was brought in as a new iteration of Superman after Henry Cavill bowed out of playing the role amid a switch up in telling the story. Henry's version of the comic hero formed part of the DC Extended Universe, whereas David's new and improved version came as a reboot to the original film in the intact DC Universe.
The film is set to hit cinema screens in the United States on July 11, 2025. However, the film will launch internationally two days earlier on July 9, all being able to be seen in IMAX theatres.
