We've discovered a great new hotel in Manchester

If you're visiting an unfamiliar city, finding the perfect hotel can be a challenge. But The Reach at Piccadilly in Manchester ticks all the boxes for quality, value and location.

Just a stone's throw from Manchester Piccadilly train station, this four-star gem opened its doors in July and offers style and character without a hefty price tag. As part of Marriott Hotels' Tribute Portfolio, The Reach's design pays homage to the city's rich industrial past – a theme that's evident as you gaze out over the neighbouring Rochdale Canal with your morning cup of locally roasted coffee.

The rooms at The Reach are modern, comfortable and chic, many boasting small balconies with canal views. Our room was adorned with thoughtful touches like a large monstera plant, a pillow mist by the bed and charcoal-infused bathroom toiletries – another nod to the Industrial Revolution.

Where to eat in Manchester

When it comes to dining, The Reach's Lock 84 restaurant serves up delicious food in a sharing-plates style. Despite being quiet during our visit (likely due to the recent opening), the tempura oyster mushroom, spiced cauliflower steak and truffle gnocchi were standouts, and there were plenty of mouth-watering options for carnivores too.

Breakfast at this spot is a treat too, with unique offerings like The Manchester Muffin and The Floddie (a smoked pancetta rosti with poached eggs) on the menu, alongside more traditional brunch dishes.

What to do in Manchester

Exploring Manchester is a breeze on foot, with many of the city's top tourist attractions within half an hour's walk of The Reach, including the Science and Industry Museum, the Manchester Museum and the Royal Exchange Theatre, reports OK!.

When we visit Manchester, however, it's usually to explore the city's excellent and ever-growing food scene. We're fans of Higher Ground for seasonal small plates, Madre for tasty Mexican food and Tattu for posh Asian cuisine.

For drinks, head to Ad Hoc Wine Shop, Mulligans Irish pub (where connoisseurs say you'll find the best pint of Guinness in town), or Blinker Bar for speakeasy-style cocktails. If you're in town for business, Ducie Street Warehouse directly opposite The Reach is a great remote working spot.
