Pigmentation can be one of the trickiest skincare concerns to treat, often requiring prescription products or pricey professional treatments to really reduce the look of dark spots or melasma, but I've found a product that comes highly recommended by our tester – and it currently costs less than £15.
Nivea's Cellular Luminous630 Anti-Dark Spot Face Serum is designed to tackle unwanted patches of pigmentation caused by sun damage, ageing or hormonal changes using its patented Luminous630 ingredient, and has some impressive clinical results showing that age spots were visibly lightened after four weeks of using this. It also has racked up hundreds of five-star customer reviews, with many saying that it "definitely shows results" and "does what it says on the bottle".
Keen to put it to the test myself, here's what I (and another tester) think of this bargain skin-brightening serum...

Laura Mulley)I don't have melasma or noticeable dark spots but as I have skin that's fairly freckly, plus the odd post-acne scar, the last time I saw my aesthetics practitioner, Dr Sophie Shotter, she recommended that I would benefit from added an anti-pigmentation product into my skincare routine, so I've been using this for the last week of so.
It feels gorgeous on the skin, really softening and smoothing, and it layers beautifully with my other skincare products; no pilling or greasy feeling at all. What I loved most about it was the immediately brightening effect it had on my skin – it mad my complexion look instantly fresher and healthier with make-up.
However, the best review of this Nivea serum comes from my mother-in-law. Pigmentation is a bigger skin bugbear for her, and I'm always sending her products to try that might help. The last delivery I sent her to try included a number of very expensive anti-dark spot serums and creams from high end and cosmeceutical brands, but there was only one product amongst them that she said made any difference: this Nivea Luminous630 serum.

For more specific pigmentation-related skin concerns, Nivea also does Luminous630 serums specifically for tackling post-acne marks and other signs of ageing, both also now half price at £16.49.
One of the best ways to prevent sun- or -ageing-related pigmentation from developing in the first place is by wearing SPF on your face every day – even in winter. I love Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense, currently £25.13, and Medik8 Advanced Ultimate Day Protect, £57.
