JAY-Z being accused of rape earlier this month sent shockwaves through the music community. However, after his accuser was interviewed on television and admitted to some inconsistencies in her filing, his lawyers are now trying to have him removed from the lawsuit.

Hov was added to an already-existing rape lawsuit against Diddy; the accuser claimed that the duo sexually assaulted her in 2000 at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party when she was just 13 years old. She is being represented by Tony Buzbee, the Houston-based attorney who took on over 120 new alleged victims of Puff’s sexual misconduct. For a few months, there were claims that another high-profile celebrity would be taken down alongside the Bad Boy founder and some people suggested the Brooklyn rapper’s name before the official court filing.

However, days after the lawsuit came out, his accuser went on NBC and revealed details that contradicted what was said in her lawsuit. For example, she claimed that she spoke to musician Benji and his brother at the afterparty in the lawsuit; NBC revealed, via their representatives, that they were on tour in the Midwest at the time, thus, they would not have been at the party. Also, she stated in the suit that her father drove over five hours to pick her up at a gas station after she escaped from JAY-Z and Diddy, but her father stated that he does not remember doing so.

These inconsistencies have empowered JAY-Z and his legal team to redirect the public vitriol toward Tony Buzbee and claim that he had filed a false complaint. They believe that Buzbee is using this case as an opportunity to gain fame and monetary benefit, with one of Diddy’s lawyers even saying the NBC interview signified the “beginning of the end of this shameful money grab.”

The “99 Problems” rapper also cited that such harmful public accusations have damaged not only himself, but “his family, his businesses, his employees, and his legacy.” Buzbee, however, stands firm, telling The Associated Press, “They continue to file meritless motions that are contrary to the rules and which have absolutely no merit.”

Earlier this week, the 24-time Grammy winner’s attorney Alex Spiro attempted to clarify that there were no ties between himself and Diddy, especially the latter’s heinous allegations. “Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case, or Mr. Combs,” Spiro told reporters. “They knew each other professionally for a number of years. Just like in all professions, people know each other. At a music awards, they support each other […] That’s just how professions work. There is no closer association between any of them. That’s also a matter of fiction […] he doesn’t know anything about the charges or allegations.”
