3 weeks ago 3

Julia Roberts is known as one of the most well-respected actresses in Hollywood nowadays.

The star, who has appeared in dozens of films, shot to fame in the 1980s, with a glowing career ever after. However, off-screen, her romantic life has been filled with short flings before she met her current long-term husband Daniel Moder in 2000.

Throughout her singlehood, Julia has been romantically linked with a number of Hollywood hunks, including well-known stars. Since then, the star has settled down with her beau, and has welcomed three children into the world together.

So, as she celebrates her 57th birthday today, Daily Star takes a look back at Julia Roberts' love life.

Liam Neeson

Eyebrows were raised about Liam and Julia's relationship as she was 19 and he was 35

Northern Irish hunk Liam briefly dated Julia in 1987, after they first met on the set of the film Satisfaction, released that year. The couple had starred in the comedy-drama film together, and sparks soon began to fly, with the couple going official shortly after filming wrapped.

Their relationship initially raised eyebrows due to the large age gap between the two actors. Julia had been 19 years-old at the time, with Liam being 16 years, her senior, prompting concerns about the nature of their relationship

The couple lived together during 1988, staying at Liam's home in Venice California, trying to make their blossoming love work. But after a year of being together, the couple decided to split and go their separate ways.

Kiefer Sutherland

Julia called off her wedding to Kiefer three days before

After some time being single, Julia found love once again with fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland in April of 1990. Similar to Liam, the pair had crossed paths whilst on the set of Flatliners, which propelled them both to new heights in their careers.

Both Julia and Kiefer sensed chemistry and gave the relationship a go, and it was clear that the pair were in love. After less than a year of dating, Kiefer proposed to Julia, with the Notting Hill actress saying yes and a lavish wedding ceremony being organised.

However, cracks soon started to appear in their relationship as the pair tried to balance their schedules. And so, just three days before the couple were due to tie the knot in June of 1991, Julia cancelled the much-anticipated ceremony and the duo split.

Matthew Perry

Friends icon Matthew Perry ended things with Julia as he thought she would leave him

In 1996, Julia had been asked to appear on hit sitcom Friends for a guest appearance; she agreed, but only on the condition that she could have a storyline with Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry. In the run-up to taping, the couple had already been flirting heavily and had been dating by the time the episode had been filmed.

However, just two months after the episode wrapped, Matthew dumped Julia in a shocking move. Writing in his autobiography in 2022, Matthew claimed that he had "sabotaged" his relationship with the film star after he admitted he was scared she would leave him for someone else.

"Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me," he wrote at the time. I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me.

"Why would she not? I was not enough; I could never be enough; I was broken, bent, unlovable," he added. "So, instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts."

Daniel Day-Lewis

Oscar winner Daniel was reported to have dated Julia whilst filming Shakespeare in Love

One of her final flings before meeting her current beau Daniel Moder, Julia was rumoured to be romantically connected with Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis in 1998. The pair had been put together to work on the iconic film Shakespeare in Love, but problems soon arose.

Having initially been cast as Viola de Lesseps on the movie, Julia was tasked with several different actors to establish chemistry and find the best dynamic for the film. It was here where Daniel and Julia first met and, while Julia had issues with chemistry with every other option, she found no fault with the Lincoln actor.

Julia reportedly was lovestruck by Daniel, sending him two dozen roses, along with a card that had read "Be my Romeo". However, Julia's intense search for real chemistry racked up a bill of $6million for Universal Studios, who deemed the cost to be too much, sacking Julia and instead giving the role to Gwyneth Paltrow.
