With the investigation ongoing, it was only this week that Liam's body was repatriated to the U.K. The devastating delay has meant that the father-of-one's family and friends have been waiting to say their final goodbyes.
Argentine police sources have confirmed that Liam's remains were handed over to his heartbroken family, who succeeded in bringing him back to England this Monday (November 4). A private ceremony to honour Liam's memory is expected to be held on Friday in Wolverhampton, with his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan likely to join.
Cheryl Tweedy, mother to Liam's seven year old son Bear Payne, along with Kate Cassidy, who was Liam's partner at his time of passing, are also anticipated to be present for the sombre Midlands service, reports the Mirror.
The location of Liam's funeral remains under wraps, but fans are speculating that it might be held at St. Peter's Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton. This is where heartbroken fans have been leaving tributes for the singer, including poignant notes by the Lady Wulfrun statue.
In a touching display of devotion, One Direction followers are pushing for a permanent memorial to honour Liam in his hometown after his sudden death. Wolverhampton locals, not far from Birmingham, previously held a candlelit vigil at his old school, St Peter's Collegiate Academy. and are now campaigning for something more permanent.
As of Tuesday, November 5, a petition for a lasting monument in the West Midlands has attracted 4,654 signatures. The campaign page reads: "The recent passing of Liam Payne has touched the hearts of many, not just the unbreakable community of One Direction fans, but people worldwide. As individuals who have been profoundly impacted by the loss of this amazing talent, we ask for a permanent structure or mural to be erected in Wolverhampton in his honour."
