Christmas pyjamas are almost as popular of a festive tradition as mince pies and beauty advent calendars. And Marks and Spencer shoppers have been rushing to the retailer’s website to snap up a pair sported by none other than comedian Dawn French.
Starring in the high street favourite’s latest Christmas advert this week, an overwhelmed French returns from Christmas shopping, slipping off her coat to reveal she’d been out in a pair of tartan PJs. And customers have been raving about the ‘classic’ design.
The nightwear set features a traditional red and green checked pattern, which is a staple of the holiday season, meaning they won’t date and can be worn for years to come. Plus they’re made from 100% cotton, making them worth their £30 price tag.

Described as ‘ soft and comfortable’ by shoppers, the set is made in a ‘regular fit’, with a button down top and matching bottoms with an elastic waistband - a must for tackling the Boxing Day leftovers. They come in sizes 6-22, but are also available in kids' and men's sizes, as well as a baby romper, meaning the whole family can match… now that’s one for the Christmas cards.
The women’s sleepwear set has earned a 4 star rating out of five from customers who have been snapping them up with the winter months and festive season in mind, reports the Express. One said: Soooo comfy and great quality! Don’t even need to put the heating on!”
Another shared: ''Treated myself to new jammies ready for winter and I'm pleased with the purchase. They are soft and comfortable and nice and warm. The colours are Christmassy without having an explicit Christmas theme which I also like, as they're a bit more classic. I agree with other reviews about the top being large in size compared with the bottoms, but it doesn't bother me having a looser fit on top. The bottoms are true to size (I'm an 8, bought an 8 and the bottoms fit well without being too tight or restrictive at nighttime). ''
Another chimed in: ''Very soft, and comfortable. Good quality. Some pyjamas can cause me to be too hot but the fabric is great (not cheap polyester!) bought family matching set for Christmas Day post-partum.''
However, one did caution about the sizing, saying: ''These are really lovely PJs, lovely soft material and well made. However, they are massive! I originally bought the size I'd normally buy in trousers and I could fit myself and my 12 year old daughter into the top. Have downsized from a 14 to a 12 now but they're still very roomy - but comfortable!''
Elsewhere, Next also has some lovely matching Christmas pyjamas for the whole family - including the dog - with Debenhams having plenty of different styles to choose from, too. So whether you're a family who dons pyjamas on Christmas Day or you prefer to spend Christmas Eve and Boxing Day in comfort, there's sure to be a pair for everyone.
But if you prefer something a little more glam, you can look back to the M&S advert and Dawn French for some partywear inspiration, too. In the advert, Dawn is hosting a party but has no time to get ready, so her festive fairy doppelganger waves her wand and transforms her home, and her outfit into something more dazzling. Her Textured V-Neck Midi Relaxed Dress from Marks and Spencer is priced at £45 and features a subtle sparkle, making it versatile enough for various festive season events. You can find out more about the dress here.
And, if you spend more than £35 on home, fashion or beauty at M&S, you’ll be able to buy the high street favourite’s beauty advent calendar, worth over £300, for £50. It contains 25 products, 6 of which are full-sized, perfect for pampering your way through to December 25. Shoppers can expect to discover a number of familiar and new brands, with products from Clinique, Benefit, REN, Prai, and more tucked inside. Read our review of the calendar here.
