Maura Higgins 'not good' as she lands in Australia for I'm A Celebrity stint

Maura Higgins admitted she is "not good" as she prepares to enter I'm A Celebrity.

The Love Island babe, 33, is set to head into camp in the coming days to join the rest of the I'm A Celebrity campmates. She will not be going in alone, however, as comedian and TV priest Reverend Richard Coles will also be joining her.

When asked on how she felt before heading into the I'm A Celebrity jungle, Maura admitted she was not feeling her best, admitting she felt like she needed a break from everything. It comes after the Irish star had one last boozy blow-out before she traded cocktails for cockroaches.

"Honestly, I'm not good," she explained. "I feel like I'm in The Hangover, I've even got the shakes."

She added: "I have no clue what time it is, I don’t know where I am. In fact, I’ve done the opposite of preparing myself; I’ve tried not to think about it, because when I think about it, I get so much anxiety."

Maura's stint in the jungle will make her only the second ever Love Island star to head into the ITV reality show. The first came in the form of Olivia Attwood, who was eventually removed from camp after just two days on medical grounds.

Speaking about the pressure of representing her fellow Islanders, Maura said she is determined to show off how strong she can be. "I just don’t want to let people down, because everyone’s been DMing me, saying ‘Oh my God, I hope you’re doing the show,’" she admitted.

Former ring girl Maura said that she did not want to be "the biggest wimp" in camp and said she would be giving it her all in the trials. However, she confessed her mum was not best pleased about her decision to go on the show.

"She nearly died," Maura recalled. "She went: ‘Maura, how are you going to do that?’ She is baffled as I’m more of an indoor girl; I like my hotels - I’ve never slept outside."

Maura has managed to build an impressive career for herself in the wake of her Love Island stint. After calling time on her relationship with Curtis Pritchard, the star landed a number of presenting gigs, including This Morning and even the American version of Love Island itself.

Looking back on her career, Maura said she was happy to have matured and become a better person, but she would continue to be confrontational if someone rubbed her up the wrong way.

"If someone gets on my nerves, I’m not really one to hold it in - I do speak my mind," Maura said. "If someone patronised me, I get really irritated. Like, that’s one thing that really drives me mad."

Maura is set to join the I'm A Celebrity camp on Thursday (November 21) together with Rev Rich Coles. ITV bosses are said to be hoping that their arrival will disrupt the balance in the camp and lead to tension and conflict as food becomes scarce and precious.

I'm A Celebrity airs every day at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
