Meghan Markle never got the chance to meet the late Princess Diana - but she paid a subtle tribute to Prince Harry's late mum in the trailer for her new lifestyle series

Meghan's new Netflix series has been called With Love, Meghan

Meghan Markle appears to have made a sweet tribute to the mother-in-law she never met.

The two-minute-long teaser for her new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, dropped on Thursday and shows the Duchess wandering rows of a meticulously kept garden, choosing fresh flowers, harvesting honey, kneading homemade bread and working in the kitchen with a lineup of famous friends, including Mindy Kaling and Suits star Abigail Spencer.

And throughout the different scenes there is one constant - Princess Diana's gold Cartier Tank Française watch, which Meghan wears alongside another Cartier piece, the designer's iconic gold Love bracelet. The late princess wore her watch regularly after her divorce from then-Prince Charles.

Ironically, Meghan already owned a version of the same watch prior to meeting Harry. In 2015, Meghan told HELLO! that she bought her own two-tone Tank Française to celebrate the third season of Suits, and had it engraved to say "To MM from MM".

The Duchess is a longtime fan of Cartier: she's owned one of the brand's signature gold Love bangles (£3,800 and up) since at least 2011, nearly a decade before she married into the Royal Family. She even wore the brand on her wedding day, choosing a £120,000 diamond-encrusted bracelet for the ceremony and matching drop earrings worth around £53,000 for the reception.

Prince Harry reportedly gifted his mother's yellow gold timepiece to his wife, and she was first seen wearing it publicly in 2020. The same model currently retails for upwards of £17,590, though given its historical value, Diana's watch is likely worth much more.

Meghan has received mixed reviews following the release of the trailer for With Love, Meghan. On top of that, she faced a major setback when it came to the show's hashtag, prompting Instagram to issue an apology for restricting hashtags about the show.

Royal historian and expert Dr Tessa Dunlop told the Mirror: "It is all too easy to mock Meghan and the perfect world she presents in her new Netflix trailer: shiny (slightly) famous friends, effortfully fresh food, Insta-ready images.

"But worry not, apparently this is just what the Duchess does: in her words 'I have always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it.' And no, she is not talking about Prince Harry , who this time is lucky enough to make an appearance alongside his influencer wife and her millennial chums. According to chef Roy Choi, 'they are family now', which doesn’t bode well given the Sussexes' track record with their nearest and dearest.

"See, I told you it was easy to mock. I mean, come on, a reality series in which one of the richest women in the world is pretending she can teach us 'little tips and tricks'. Demonstrating how 'we can incorporate these practises' into our domestic lives, as she meanders through her sun-dappled kitchen garden, retro basket in hand, before attending those designer bee hives, dripping with honey. It's so out-of-reach for the vast majority, it is laughable."

And royal expert and author Hugo Vickers questioned the timing of the show, telling The Sun : "The sort of food that she's producing is not going to appeal to a lot of people who can't afford to buy that sort of thing."
