A couple from the U.K. are going viral on Instagram for their priceless reactions to some surprising news.
With wine glasses in hand and their daughters Romy Beau and Covey Wren perched on their parents' knees, the Parkers cut into their cake, revealing blue-tinged sponge. Their stunned reactions say it all.
"For our previous pregnancies, we always found out whether we were having a girl or a boy in the scan room. But with this being our third, and potentially last child, we wanted to do something extra special and find out whether baby number three was going to be a girl or a boy," Nicki Parker told Newsweek.
Nicki and her husband Danny had a private gender scan at 16 weeks, where the result was sealed in an envelope. This was passed to Nicki's mom who arranged for a baker to prepare the surprise cake.
"We waited a week from having the scan to finding out all together as a family what baby number three would be," Nicki added.
The mom of two explained that the sonographer gave the couple a sneak preview of the potty shot during their 13-week scan—an ultrasound image from a view looking up between the baby's legs. This angle can sometimes help identify the baby's gender by showing the genital area, though it's not always fully accurate, especially in early pregnancy.
"Although we know that potty shots aren't fully accurate at 13 weeks, the potty shot at this point was exactly the same as our two previous pregnancies (which turned out to be girls) and showed absolutely no sign of it being a boy at all," Nicki said.
She also experienced almost identical symptoms and a very similar first trimester with her two other pregnancies.
"We were so confident we were having another girl that we felt that the cake reveal was almost a formality, which is why we were so shocked when the cake was blue," Nicki told Newsweek.
Since it was posted on December 3, Nicki's clip has clocked up 6.7 million views and almost 300,000 likes. Many other social media users were delighted for the couple expecting their third baby.
"Your reactions were the best, just complete and utter shock," one user commented. "I know this feeling after twin girls!" another wrote.
Now that they know they're expecting a baby boy, the Parkers couldn't be happier.
"We're so blessed that we get to experience what it's like to parent both girls and a boy and so excited for this new adventure as a family of five. Our two little girls also can't wait to be older sisters to their little brother," said Nicki.
