He was such a recognisable face around the world and loved by so many, it’s heartbreaking his life was ended so short. It really resonates with me being a father and also having a seven-year-old, and I can’t imagine that loss for his son too. Sending our love and thoughts to his family and friends.”

In an official statement given to The Associated Press, police authorities disclosed that the 31-year-old star "had jumped from the balcony of his room," seemingly dispelling any notions of an accidental fall or foul play. The devastating incident occurred during Payne's holiday in Buenos Aires with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, which included supporting ex-bandmate Niall Horan at a concert. A preliminary autopsy indicated Payne died from "multiple traumas" leading to "internal and external bleeding" following the fall.
His One Direction bandmates have since paid tribute to their "brother", saying they are "devastated". In a statement signed "Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry", Liam Payne's One Direction bandmates said: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.
"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
