RTE star Brendan Courtney and boyfriend Adam Maryniak break up: "It was very uncomplicated"

TV star and fashion designer Brendan Courtney and his boyfriend Adam Maryniak have split up.

The couple broke up three months ago amid Brendan's move to his newly renovated Wicklow home, which is due for completion next month.

Their uncoupling was very amicable and they remain close friends. They also weren't married and didn't share any big assets, so they made their parting less complicated.

Brendan said: “We’re still really good mates. I invested in his dream, and I learned that was a mistake. It wasn’t our dream.

"This was my dream. It wasn’t Adam’s. I really am grateful to him.

"He didn’t imprint on this house at all. So when we parted, this is just me. There’s no loss in this house.”

Brendan and Adam broke up after noticing that they had became friends and a frank and honest conversation ensued.

The RTÉ presenter told People and Culture: “I absolutely adore him, and we adore each other. But it was literally a meeting of minds.

"We sat down one night and said: ‘I think this has become a friendship. I think we need to acknowledge that.’

“He started the conversation, in fairness, and we both agreed straight away – yeah, let’s call this. He’s been amazing. Actually, we were fast-tracked into best friends so quickly, we had to calm down a little bit.

"As in, we just were like, there’s a process of coming out of one type of relationship into another. But we weren’t married, and we didn’t own any property together. So it was very uncomplicated."

Brendan is glad that he and Adam have no ties together and they were able to walk away from their relationship.

He explained: “The gays do it really well. Well, some gays do it really badly. I know gays who are married and own houses together and can’t get away from each other.

"But we were fortunate that we were a little older when we met, so we didn’t invest in anything together.”

The news of the split was reported today, just days after he announced that his beloved Nuala died.

Brendan said: “They say there’s three things in life you have to manage and get over – death, divorce and disease.

"I’ve had a divorce, and I don’t have disease. The matriarch in the family is very sick. I’m just dealing with that and living through that. My living arrangements are on hold. I’m not thinking about that just now.”
