Warning: This article contains spoilers for ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
Whether it’s your friend, your sibling, or even your parent, it’s understandable if you’d feel a bit iffy if they decided to enter a reality show like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. After all, the show’s all about exposing yourself and being vulnerable enough to fall in love, so it can be a daunting place for a friend or family member to be in.
Just ask The Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos‘ four kids Nicholas, Erica, Allison and Luke. According to their mom, they seemed to be quite apprehensive about her time as the show’s lead. In fact, they even gave their mom some major rules to follow.

“Well, you would hope that they were giving me love advice, but they were like, ‘Do not kiss a lot of men on TV and don’t do fantasy suites,'” Joan told Katie Couric Media.
But as viewers of the show know well, Joan didn’t exactly shy away from kissing her contestants – a choice her kids are well aware of. “So now, every episode I watch, my one daughter calls me and tells me how many men I kissed, and she’s appalled every time,” she said. We can’t blame her!
Luckily for her kids, however, Joan made her boundaries crystal clear when it came to her overnight dates last week.
“I want to have the time off camera that we can talk and we can discuss intimate things, but when it comes to the physical part of that, I’m not going to do that with three different people,” she said to her first date of the week, Guy Gansert, per People. “So, I’m not going to do it with anybody right now.”
Speaking to the outlet, Joan explained why setting that boundary was so crucial to her.
“It was important to me that I did that my way because I definitely did not feel comfortable doing the physical aspect of the fantasy suites,” she told Katie Courci Media. “I want a good physical relationship, even at this age, but I certainly was not doing that with three people. So I just took that off the table for everybody, and the guys were so respectful. In fact, I feel like it was a bit of a relief.”

“I think everybody realized that was the right thing to do because if somebody ends up with me, I think knowing that I’d just had a physical relationship with someone else would be hard on the relationship,” she added. We couldn’t agree more!
