Victoria Beckham reveals big change her family have made after living in the spotlight for decades

Victoria Beckham has given a unique insight into how she's chosen to protect herself from the spotlight after decades in the public eye and made a heartbreaking confession about her son, Romeo.

The former Spice Girl, 50, and her husband David Beckham, 49, have lived their adult lives as two of the most famous celebrities in the world - but Victoria admits her priorities have changed since having children. The couple had to deal with huge public backlash after the 1998 World Cup, in which David was sent off after kicking Diego Simeone, with England going on to lose the game on penalties.

With a 23-year-old David taking a large proportion of the blame, the reaction from the press and football fans lead David to become "clinically depressed" in the aftermath, by his own admission. With the England loss taking place the year before David and Victoria got married, unsurprisingly it tested their relationship.

Remembering how they coped, Victoria told Harper's Bazaar: "I mean, when it happened, David was the same age that Romeo is now.

The doting mum heartbreakingly added: "But the thought of my Romeo having to go through it… I don’t know how he would handle that. I don’t know how anyone would handle that. But we didn’t have a choice."

She added how she's wanted a more "discreet" life for her and David's kids, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13.

Victoria added: "You have to go through those times to make you, ultimately, who you are. We’ve kind of figured out how to be quite discreet, which is just how we want to conduct our lives right now. I suppose it used to be fun to go out and be chased by paparazzi walking down Bond Street – and you would dress knowing you were going to get that. I don’t want that any more."

David and Victoria got married in an iconic ceremony in 1999 and they still show fans how head over heels for each other they are, after almost 30 years together. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by recreating their famous purple ensembles from their wedding day. In a recent interview with Vogue Australia, Victoria and Nicole Kidman sat down to chat about her life and relationship with former Man United player David.

She gushed that she 'loves' spending time with her other half still, calling him 'very funny' as she praised their strong marriage. Victoria said: "I have a husband I very much am still in love with, possibly more than when we first met. We really laugh. And we really support each other in regards to our careers and passions."

The Spice Girl added: "I said to him last night – and the kids – after 25 years, I love your dad so much and I support him and continue to want him to be the best version of himself, and he does that for me. And it’s really important that the children see that."

Victoria continued: "Me and David can go away, just the two of us, and we laugh and we enjoy that time, and I think that’s so rare after so many years. It’s a pinch-me moment every day." When they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, Victoria and David shared a sweet message.

The pair proved they still love their breaks away on their recent luxury yacht getaway, in which they showed they were very much still in love.
