Congrats are in order for “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu and his wife, Kristin Hodge.
While being honored at the 2024 WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Tuesday, the filmmaker revealed to “Extra” that he and Hodge, a graphic designer, are expanding their family with baby no. 5.
“I’ve just finished the movie, so I’m sort of just letting everything go and just starting to enjoy it. I have a new baby coming, so in my head, that’s what I’m focused on,” Chu said. “She could come any day now. It’s going to be a little daughter.”
The couple share four kids together: Willow, Ruby, Jonathan and Iggy.
“I could leave tonight — you never know — so we got to get this thing started,” he said, before adding that the bundle of joy will be his “third kid during Wicked.”
In 2019, Chu similarly gushed over the birth of his second child, Jonathan Heights Chu, whom he named after “In the Heights,” the 2021 movie musical that Chu directed.

“I took the day off yesterday from shooting @Lin_Manuel’s #InTheHeightsMovie so I could witness my beautiful wife give birth to our first son... Introducing Jonathan Heights Chu (aka Heights),” Chu wrote on social media at the time. “May your hands always be connected to others but your view be towards the skies.”
“Wicked” hits theaters Nov. 27. The film’s second part is due for release on Nov. 26, 2025.
