We’re back with the recap for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 6. Last week, Gary got more frustrated with Emma’s job performance. Danni thought Keith should be more flirty with her, while he’s just trying to remain professional in front of the guests. Danni’s ability to banter with the guests and make “the perfect three-bean espresso martini” annoyed Diana. And despite Keith’s interest in Danni, she ended the evening swimming in the bay and making out with Gary. Here’s exactly what went down in BDSY Season 5, Episode 6: “Loose Lips Sink Trysts.”
What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 6?
In this week’s episode, Gary tries to cool his jets with the female crew members, but Danni’s not getting it and continues to flirt with him. Daisy questions some of the chef’s choices for food presentation as not being up to super yacht standards, but when she tries to advise him, he gets defensive. And Gary’s reaching the end of his yacht rope with Emma’s work ethic and lack of skills on deck. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 6.
Gary tells Daisy about his “little sneaky kiss” with Danni
When last we saw Danni and Gary, they were making out in the harbor of the marina. Ick. There’s got to be a lot of motor oil and pollution in that water. Gross!
Gary confirms my thoughts when she comments, “We’re literally swimming in, like, the dirtiest water.”
And Gary’s having second thoughts, as he interviews, “Ugh! I mean, don’t get me wrong. She’s gorgeous and she’s an amazing person, but I see her in a little sister type of way.” Yeah, I could see that when you were making out with her, Gary.
“That was a terrible idea,” he tells Danni.
When a producer asks him why he kissed her then, he responds, “I think alcohol plays a big factor in that, to be honest.” You think?
“Gary’s Gary, I can’t help it.”
After Daisy catches both her stews and Emma flagrantly flirting with Gary, he pulls her outside for a quick chat. “I need to tell you something about myself and Danni,” he says.
“We did have a little sneaky kiss,” he tells her. It was a little more than that, Gary. They were making out in the oily marina water.
“Jesus, Gary,” Daisy moans. “I can’t.”
“Honestly, I didn’t want it to happen,” he says.
“F*ck, Gary,” Daisy adds. “This is a f*cking f*ckup. I think if you understood why this behavior is so toxic to the team and to yourself, I think it would be easier to be, like, this isn’t a good idea … She’s 11 years younger than you!”
Daisy thinks he’s “looking for validation,” but Gary loses his temper.
“You’re crazy,” he tells her and stomps off, adding, “You’re blowing this totally out of proportion.”
“D*ckhead,” she mutters after him.
Daisy and Cloyce disagree about dinner presentation
As soon as the guests settle in, Glenn says they’re going to sail. Poor Cloyce is in the galley trying to cook. That’s just life on a sailing vessel, dude. Not only is he trying to cook on the slant, but he’s got a massive hangover. Learn some restraint when you’ve got to work the next day, dude. And drink some water.
Luckily, Daisy tells Cloyce that they probably won’t want dinner before 10 p.m., so he decides to retreat to his cabin for a quick nap. Once he wakes up, he feels much better and is ready to cook.
One of the guest couples is recently engaged, so Daisy would like Chef to do something special for them. They’ve requested a blue and white dinner, so she suggests a blue and white trifle for dessert.
Cloyce says he’s making a “seafood extravaganza,” and it will be family style. Daisy thinks it would be more elegant to be plated.
“On a boat like this for an engagement dinner,” she interviews, “it should 1000% be plated … As another [Head of Department], I can give Cloyce my opinion, but if Cloyce isn’t going to listen, that’s on him.”
The guests prove Daisy was right about plating
Even though Daisy has a lot more experience in yachting than he does, Cloye decides he’s sticking with family style. But as the “Seafood Bash” is served to the guests, one of them has a comment. “I hate to say this. I love the family style, but…”
“But you want it plated for dinner,” Daisy says, finishing her thought. She promises to pass that along to the chef as she apologizes. Ironically, several other guests are in agreement with her. Live and learn, Cloyce.
Captain Glenn stops by the dinner table to check in with the guests. “How was dinner?” he asks. He’s greeted by an awkward silence.
When he says they still have dessert coming, they say they’re too tired for dessert. But Cloyce is down in the galley constructing a trifle with the cake he baked.
Meanwhile, the guests are all exhausted and jet-lagged. They want to go to bed. It’s been 23 minutes since dinner was cleared. I’d be done, too.
“Why is he so slow?” Daisy asks in a confessional. “Why is he taking so long? Instead of taking a full-blown-ass nap, you should have been prepping these desserts. You should be better organized. This is bullsh*t.”
Gary apologizes to Daisy for their earlier fight
While Chef’s making his dessert, Gary again pulls Daisy aside. “I think it’s better if we don’t fight,” he says, “and I want to apologize to you.”
“I wasn’t trying to lay into you,” she responds. “But I don’t know how elses to communicate your behavior is self-destructive, and it’s destructive to other people. I’m glad you took the time to reflect. You don’t treat other people like that. Especially people who are in your f*cking corner. Thank you for allowing me to speak, and thank you for the apology.”
“It’s time you grew up,” she says as they hug it out. “Just a little bit.”
Finally, the dessert arrives, and OMG, it was a let-down. It was 28 minutes in the making. He should have brought out a Baked Alaska or a flambé of some sort. That was hardly worth the wait.
“I would count tonight as definitely not my best work,” Cloyce admits in a confessional. “Not enough sleep, definitely too much to drink. I’m never doing that ever again.” Said every frat boy and party girl ever.
Emma falls short on her overnight duties
Once again, Emma has the overnight watch and loses track of the time. She’s still trying to finish cleaning when Keith wakes up at 7:30.
When he offers to “help” her with the swim platforms, he ends up pulling them in by himself while she stands and watches him.
“Emma’s the one who offered to help me,” Keith confesses. “And now she’s just standing here doing nothing. Just pick something up … It’s almost cruel to watch me struggle.”
But Emma has a different viewpoint. “This is honestly some passive-aggressive bullsh*t,” she says in her own interview. “I’m just over being made to feel like a f*cking small person.”
After Emma goes off to bed, Gary asks Keith how the boat was this morning. Keith tells his boss that he and Emma “had a bit of a tiff.” Keith adds that she was “tired, frustrated. She was pissed.”
“Sometimes I try to give her advice,” he adds, “and she’s like, I don’t know what to tell you. And I’m like, well, I’m just trying to help you.”
Gary tells Keith that he’ll talk to her today if he has the chance. “She does have an answer for everything, though,” he says. “Gotta tread on eggshells. It’s like a shame, man.”
Cloyce serves the guests “an airport continental breakfast”
Speaking of eggshells, Cloyce is scrambling eggs for breakfast. He’s also got sausages, yogurt, and fruit. But Daisy’s not impressed. “The breakfast that Cloyce is putting out, it’s screaming budget hotel, airport hotel, continental breakfast.”
When Glenn asks Daisy how things went last night, she asks to speak to him upstairs (out of Cloyce’s earshot).
“I’m pretty sure the guests weren’t that happy last night,” she says. “It wasn’t super yacht. The dessert even, I don’t know how long we were waiting for that.” It was 28 minutes.
“We’re not even halfway through the charter season,” Glenn interviews. “He can’t be coasting.” Glenn’s already warned him once about professionalism.
Daisy offers to talk to him again today. If she can’t get her point across, all three of them will sit down.
A few minutes later, Daisy sits down with Cloyce and explains that even though she’s not a chef, she’s been in the industry for quite some time. She thinks his food preparation is “a little bit last minute.”
“I think the guests are expecting a bit more,” she adds. “This isn’t my first rodeo. I’m trying to help you.”
As expected, Cloyce gets defensive. “I have never in the history of my charter experience had anyone question my capabilities in the galley.”
“I’m trying to help you from my eleven years of yachting,” she tells him. “But maybe in the two years of yachting you’ve been doing, you know better.”
So, that went well.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
