Channel 4 presenter Emily Maitlis disappeared from the studio after swearing.

The acclaimed newsreader got herself in trouble with co-host Krishnan Guru-Murthy after she swore during intense coverage of the US election on Wednesday (November 6). He apologised to viewers for the explicit language and informed them he'd be 'telling her off'.

Emily and Krishnan were heading up Channel 4's coverage of the US election, where Donald Trump has since declared victory over Kamala Harris. They spoke to several guests about the historic election, including former PM Boris Johnson.

But the election coverage took a turn for the worse when Emily swore during a rant about Trump's antics during the election campaign. Recalling Trump's controversial remarks, she remarked: "It's not that they disagree about one thing.

"The whole thing is asymmetric. When Donald Trump talked about eating cats and dogs. Half of America was thinking, 'This is bats**t. I can't believe what he's saying. This is going to be the end of him'."

Krishnan was forced to step in to tell her off for swearing during the broadcast, reports the Express. He said: "Stop swearing. I have to tell [the guests] off for swearing and then you do it."

Emily quickly apologised, saying: "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," before doubling down on her remarks, saying: "How else would you describe it?".

But just moments later, Emily had disappeared from the studio, with Krishnan apologising again in an update to viewers, who had noticed she'd vanished from screen. He said: "I will tell off Emily later because I know she started swearing.

Donald Trump declared victory before the official count concluded

"It may be the middle of the night in Britain but we're still a little bit sensitive about that stuff." One viewer on X, formerly Twitter, wrote: "I just switched back over to channel 4. I kid you not. Emily Maitlis is no longer in the studio and Krishnan Guru-Murthy apologised and said she started to swear. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! THIS IS WONDERFUL!."

Another commented: "I thought I was imagining things when I heard him say this." A third wrote: "Oh it was Maitliss swearing. I switched over and thought he was talking about a guest Channel 4 had to cut off."

"Emily Maitlis just swore again and said 'this is bats**t' and Guru just told her off," a fourth added.

Last month saw Trump spark controversy after alleging immigrants were eating pets, claims which have been vehemently denied.

Emily's outburst came after she clashed with Boris Johnson during Channel 4's election programme. She claimed the former PM had "imported some of that Trump-like behaviour in Britain" when he was in Downing Street.

Boris denied this and slammed the veteran journalist, claiming her questions to him about Trump were "sloppy" and "dangerous". Emily then asked if Trump's victory would inspire his own political comeback, and Boris said the asnwer is "obviously contained" in his new book, titled Unleashed.

He claimed he won a "magnificent victory for the American people" in the US election, and said he will "help our country heal". Emily swiped: "We’re not all gonna read your book so just tell us: do you want to have a political comeback?

The News Agents star said Boris hadn't answered "a single question", something she said was "extraordinary". Boris argued back: "I’ve answered all your questions all night."
