The Elevator Boys are back, and this time, they’re bringing on the holiday cheer! J-14 sat down with the German boy group for an exclusive interview, where they spilled all the details about their first-ever holiday release, “Jingle Bell Rock,” their Holiday traditions — and what fans can expect from the group in 2025. 👀
See below for an exclusive Q&A with the Elevator Boys:
What inspired you to choose “Jingle Bell Rock” for your first holiday release?
It’s an absolute classic! The song simply puts you in a good mood and brings back so many childhood memories.
Do you have any fun holiday traditions as a group?
We always spend the actual festive period at home with our families, which is always so nice, but we’re also starting our own tradition! Just before Christmas, we usually organize a Christmas party with our entire team and all of our parents. Also, Tim and Luis used to get a Christmas tree for our Elevator Mansion in past years. Maybe we should get one for the office this year.
You’ve captured a loyal fanbase quickly. How has connecting with fans influenced your music?
We always wanted to spread positivity with our videos, and over time, we received so much feedback from our fans about how we had helped them through difficult times. We realized that we had only presented a limited image of ourselves on social media, based on short videos, so music offered an opportunity to showcase more of our personalities. We can discuss topics that people can relate to and connect with our community on a deeper level. Music allows us to address serious topics with a certain lightness, hopefully making it easier for others to open up about their feelings.
How do you work together as a group to develop your sound? Do you all have different musical tastes?
We all have different individual tastes, which can of course, be a challenge. It’s not always easy to find common ground because we all have to agree on the song that will be released. However, it can also be a big opportunity, as we all have our own strengths. Especially when it comes to vocals, one of us has an incredibly good head voice and can sing really high. Another is great at powerful scream parts and intense outbursts. And then we have someone who has a really deep bass voice.
What are some of your inspirations as a group?
Our inspiration often comes from songs that we are listening to ourselves. We usually sit down together and create a playlist with all our favorite songs. We think about how we can combine our different ideas and sound we’re aiming for. Lyrically, we get a lot of inspiration from interpersonal relationships, but also from the experiences and moments we’ve had throughout our lives.
You released your long-awaited EP, Scared to Love, this year! What was the creative process like?
We were in the studio for the first time back in 2022 in LA. For three days, we were totally locked in and recorded demos. During an Uber ride, we decided we wanted to commit to becoming a real boy band because we had so much fun creating music together. We now have around 60 demos, and we decide as a group which songs we want to record next. For the Scared to Love EP, we also decided which songs fit into this overall theme. For example, Pillow Talk was one of the songs we recorded back in LA that made it onto the EP.
What was your favorite song to record?
There were so many special moments during the recordings of all our songs, and every single song tells a story that is close to our hearts. However, the one that sticks in our minds is “Insecure” from our EP, “Scared to Love.” We came up with a theme and thought about how we could translate this into a song. We wanted to tell people that it’s normal to sometimes feel insecure, and that we also have the same feelings. In the end, we walked out of the studio with a party song that has a deep meaning – which also reflects the irony. It was a really cool session!
You guys dressed up like the Spice Girls for Halloween this year. Whose idea was that?
It was actually an idea that came up with our whole KABU team. After we committed to this idea, we really wanted to recreate this iconic Spice Girls picture. So, it was also clear to do all the costumes ourselves. It was a really fun process!
What can fans expect from you in 2025? Any upcoming projects or collaborations you can tease?
We have a bunch of exciting things in store for 2025. Fans can definitely expect more music from us!
