Kim Kardashian could be on her way to irrelevancy pretty fast thanks to a huge social media campaign launched by trolls determined to see her influence wane.
The Skims boss, 44, has amassed a healthy following on her TikTok account with 9.8million followers – although it pales in comparison to her Instagram page which has attracted an eye-watering 359m fans.
However, she could see her fanbase on TikTok significantly decline if a certain group of trolls get their way.
Comments on her most recent videos have been flooded with messages from those behind the posts encouraging others to get on board.
Mcgee8810 desperately wrote under Kim’s most recent post on December 7: ‘Stick to the plan!!!!’ followed by an abundance of similar messages.
So what is the said plan?
It seems the idea is that people start ‘ignoring’ Kim’s posts resulting in fewer likes, less engagement and eventually less growth on the platform. Of course, Kim is one of the most famous faces on the planet so if people want to find her, they will. But it does seem as though the boycott is having an impact.
The views on Kim’s TikTok videos appear to be largely unaffected but it’s the likes that have taken a massive hit.
Looking back to January 31, 2023, a video Kim shared of her skincare routine using products from her brand SKKN received a whopping 843,000 views, which seemed to be the average for that time period. A clip also posted that month of her daughter Chicago’s birthday party attracted a whopping 1.4m likes.
Fast forward to December 2024 though and the picture is looking remarkably different.
Kim’s latest video has just 148k views while the one before it, uploaded on November 14 to advertise Skims’ collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, is limping along with 81k.
The comments section on many of her recent videos have been hijacked by those steering the campaign in their favour.
‘IT’S WORKING,’ TikTok user Aman exclaimed with all the enthusiasm, while It’s f*****g Courtney encouraged her peers: ‘We can do it guys!!!!’
Olas._.lives said they were ‘sticking to the plan all the way from New Zealand.’
Sumayrahlubna quipped: ‘Thank you for the “STicK TO thE plANNnnn” reminders because, much needed.’
After noticing the likes on Kim’s latest video rising, one TikTokker said: ‘Guys 60k is too much stay with the plan.’
Seemingly having a change of heart, Kei weighed in: ‘Idk guys I kinda love her.’
It’s just the latest blow for Kim at a time when her family’s relevancy has been called into question. On TikTok, various pop culture commentators have challenged whether the Kar-Jenner clan really have the same influence as they once did in the late 00s or even five years ago, considering there are now many more content creators to follow with greater accessibility.
On the subject of her influence, @warne57 said in an X post: ‘Kim Kardashian’s flame is burning out. The ideology that she is paid to promote is burning out. Soon, she will be irrelevant.’
@thecardiganguy also commented: ‘Kim Kardashian’s ‘influence’ has long passed its expiration date. Irrelevant, unoriginal, and a masterclass in mediocrity. The day we no longer have to endure her existence will be a breath of fresh air.’
Then there’s the family’s The Kardashians reality show on Hulu, which has been increasingly criticised for being less entertaining than their former E! series Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Viewers have argued that Kim and her sisters seem to be much less reluctant to show certain aspects of their life having overshared for more than a decade.
When it comes to the TikTok campaign, Kim isn’t the only celebrity being subjected to a TikTok boycott as Jojo Siwa and Lizzo are among the other stars seeing their likes taking a hit. However, the tides could be turning as some fans have joined forces to reverse the campaign and flood her videos with likes.
