Kyle Richards knows what it’s like to have relationship difficulties in public. That’s why her door is always open for former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp during this challenging time.
The two are good friends and Kyle knows that Teddi is going through a difficult time. The RHOBH star knows it’s sad, confusing, and can impact the children too. Because of this, she tries to help give her as much support as she can, including how to live with this in the public eye.
Kyle Richards recommends Teddi Mellencamp focus on the truth
“I speak to Teddi all the time,” Kyle told PEOPLE. The two have been spotted together at several events and keep in touch regularly.
Kyle shared with her that the most heartbreaking thing about separations is how they impact the children. “It doesn’t matter if the kids are little or they’re grown,” Kyle explained. “My girls struggled a lot with our separation even though they are grown.”
The key piece of advice Kyle gave Teddi was to “focus on the kids. You have to tune out the noise,” she said.
Kyle recalls all the mistruths that came out during the news of her separation from Mauricio Umansky. All the rumors made an already difficult time even harder. So she told Teddi to block out the rumors and everything else. She also reminded her that she can always call her.
“She can lean on me and show up at my door anytime she wants,” Kyle said. “No matter what time of night it is.”
Teddi filed for divorce from her husband Edwin Arroyave after 13 years of marriage. She publicly announced the divorce on Instagram on November 2. Teddi cited irreconcilable differences for the split and requested primary custody of their children and spousal support. Edwin filed for joint custody and the same spousal support.
In her social media caption, Teddi said she didn’t want to make a public statement but decided it was best to do so to protect her family from undue speculation and rumors. She wanted to be open and honest. However, rumors are likely to circulate regardless and hopefully, Kyle’s advice reminds her to tune it all out.
