Singer Marc Anthony announced he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president after he criticized Donald Trump’s treatment of Puerto Rico over the years.
Anthony voiced his concerns about the former president on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, one day after the Trump campaign drew condemnation over right-wing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe opening a Trump a rally at New York City’s Madison Square Garden with a string of racist jokes, many of which targeted Puerto Rico and citizens of color.
Anthony’s post wasn’t focused on Sunday’s rally but on all the ways Trump insulted and let Puerto Rico down during his term in office:
“I’m here to tell you that even though some have forgotten … I remember.
I remember what it was like when Trump was president.
I remember what he did and said, about Puerto Rico…
About our people ...
I remember after Hurricane Maria devastated our island…
Trump blocked billions in relief … while thousands died.
I remember that when our families lacked clean water and electricity,
Trump threw paper towels and called Puerto Rico “dirty” and “poor.”
But I was not surprised..
Because I ALSO remember… he launched his campaign by calling Latinos criminals and rapists.
He’s told us what he’ll do.
He’ll separate children from their families and threatened to use the ARMY to do it
This election goes way beyond political parties.
Now let’s remember what the United States represents and stands for. It’s our name - United.
Regardless of where we’re from.
I’m Marc Anthony…
I remember…
And that’s why I support Kamala Harris for President”

Anthony’s endorsement of Harris is new, but not his antipathy toward Trump is not.
In 2016, Anthony showed his lack of support for Trump by shouting “Fuck Donald Trump!” at a concert.
In 2017, Anthony attacked Trump for being more obsessed with football players not pledging allegiance to the flag than with trying to help Puerto Rico in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Anthony isn’t the only person to announce an endorsement of Harris after the Puerto Rico insults at Sunday’s rally.
Musician Bad Bunny forwarded a message from Harris to his followers on Sunday, and Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin also endorsed the vice president, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
