Piers Morgan has broken his silence after Chancellor Rachel Reeves unveiled the government's financial plan with the UK 2024 Budget.

The broadcaster took to X with a brutal two-word reaction in response to Political Editior Kate McCann's post summarising the meeting at the House of Commons.

She penned: "Biggest tax raising Budget in history - Reeves announces her plans will hike taxes by £40billion. For context Gordon Brown’s first Budget raised tax by £14bn and George Osborne’s by £13bn.

"Norman Lamont’s Budget would have been £33bn in today’s terms according to experts."

To which, Piers blunty commented: "Oh dear..."

Rachel Reeves set out a Budget which will hike taxes by £40 billion as she promised to "fix the foundations" of the economy and repair the public finances.

The Chancellor said she will increase National Insurance contributions for employers by 1.2 percentage points to 15pc from April, raising £25bn.

She noted that the Tories had failed to budget for the cost of compensation for the infected blood and Post Office Horizon scandals.
