In his column for The Sun, Piers Morgan opened up about his conversation with Donald Trump after his win in the 2024 US election, which saw him return to the White House.
He has now firmly secured his position as the 47th president of the United States, succeeding President Biden. Voters went to the polls on Tuesday to select the country's next leader. Trump was the Republican nominee, while Kamala Harris represented the Democratic Party. On Wednesday morning, it was revealed that Trump had secured the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election.
After Trump’s win, the 59-year-old talk show host Piers called him personally, saying: “President Trump, I just wanted to personally congratulate you on pulling off the greatest comeback in political history.” Trump laughed and replied: “Thank you. I appreciate that very much, especially coming from you because I know you always say what you really think!”
Piers and Trump’s friendship dates back 16 years when Piers competed on and won Celebrity Apprentice USA. In his opinion piece, the former Good Morning Britain presenter wrote how he wasn’t shocked by Trump’s win, having predicted it for weeks.

Morgan heaped praise on Trump’s election campaign tactics, discussing how his opponent, Kamala Harris, struggled, particularly with her inability to communicate clearly. As he put it: “Harris proved woefully incapable of articulating even basic policy ideas.”
Even with a criminal conviction, Piers wrote in his column that Trump managed to frame himself as a victim of unfair political abuse, and surviving an assassination attempt only reinforced Trump’s image as a resilient figure. Trump joked: “They say I’m a threat to democracy, but I literally just took a bullet for democracy!”
In his victory speech, Trump called it “a historic realignment, uniting citizens of all backgrounds around a common core of common sense.” He said: “This campaign, this campaign has been so historic in so many ways, we've built the biggest, the broadest, the most unified coalition. They've never seen anything like it in all of American history. They've never seen any.

“Young and old, men and women, rural and urban. And we had them all helping us tonight. When you think, I mean, I was looking at it. I was watching it.
“They had some great analysis of the people that voted for us. Nobody's ever seen anything like that. They came from, they came from all quarters. Union, nonunion, African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Arab American, Muslim American, we had everybody and it was beautiful. It was a historic realignment. Uniting citizens of all backgrounds around a common core of common sense. You know, we're the party of common sense.
