Settling down on the couch to enjoy a Christmas film is a cherished tradition for many during this festive season.

The Holiday, featuring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black, has become a beloved classic due to its touching storyline and stunning settings that span from frosty English countryside to sunny California.

The 2006 flick tells the story of Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) and Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) who decide to exchange homes over the Christmas holidays. One element of the film that captivates audiences is Iris' quaint cottage which seems like the ideal spot for a yuletide getaway.

In the movie, Rosehill Cottage is tucked away in scenic countryside, boasting charming stone walls and the memorable roll-top bath tub which proves too small for American Amanda's liking. Most of the scenes set in England were shot in Surrey, but the cottage itself is fictional - it was actually a set constructed at a film studio.

The house was inspired by the real-life Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary, which was once listed on Airbnb but has since been taken down. Other scenes were filmed in the market town of Godalming and the village of Shere, among other locations in Surrey.

Interestingly, there's a village near Greater Manchester that bears a striking resemblance to Iris' home in The Holiday and makes for an ideal Christmas visit. Castleton in the Peak District boasts enchanting cottages that could certainly rival Rosehill, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The village boasts a number of inviting pubs, perfect for a scene where you'd picture Amanda and Graham snuggling together over a wine glass. A TikTok enthusiast, travelgirlything, shared a video clip of Castleton set to the movie's soundtrack, alongside the caption: "Feels like #theHoliday".

You don't need to be an aficionado of The Holiday to get swept up in the yuletide spirit of Castleton, which undergoes a transformation into a winter wonderland every December.

There is also a grotto dedicated to Santa beckons, and visitors might even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus himself meandering through the streets of the village, ready to greet the passers by.

Given Castleton's elevated location, there's also a good opportunity for a wintry sprinkle of snow, further enriching the holiday cheer.
