EastEnders icon has one of most famous brothers in world who helped her bag huge acting role

3 weeks ago 7

An EastEnders icon has spilled the beans on how her superstar bro gave her a leg up in the acting world.

Laila Morse, famed for her role as the brash Mo Harris since 2000, is a household name on the Square. As the Slater family's feisty matriarch, she's become a 'true' Walford legend.

But fans have been gobsmacked to discover that Laila's not the only celeb in the family her brother is the A-list actor Gary Oldman.

Gary's hit the big time with roles in smash hits like Bram Stoker's Dracula, Immortal Beloved, Sid and Nancy, and as the wizardly Sirius Black in Harry Potter.

Laila, however, kicked off her acting career at the ripe age of 51, and she's always given props to her bro for helping her nab her debut role in the film Nil By Mouth back in '97, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Chatting to the Loose Women panel, she revealed: "My big brother wrote and directed Nil by Mouth. He just wanted something raw. He was with a friend and he just said, 'she could do that'. I just looked at him and went what? I can't do that."

"He said, come back to the hotel and read a bit, which I did...and he went, right you're doing it. That's the first thing I'd ever done."

The sibling duo are tight-knit, even celebrating Christmas Day together at Gary's pad in California in 2018. In adorable pics posted by Gary's other half Giselle Schmidt, the fam were all grins for the lens during a sit-down meal, with another pic capturing Laila rustling up a "proper English Christmas dinner" for the gang to dig into.

Flashback to 2021, and the duo had a blast in Las Vegas. Hitting up her Insta, she popped up a photo of her and Gary, captioning it: "Throwback to our trip to Las Vegas."
