When a man stepped onto the stage of a small club in the US, people were gobsmacked - as it turned out to be none other thanPaul McCartney.
Members of the public in attendance at the 250-capacity Talkhouse in The Hamptons, US, were stunned to see the experienced stage presence at the small venue. Attending what was billed as a regular live event soon turned into a jam session featuring several legendary musicians.
According to some attendees, they didn't even know it was The Beatles and Wings legend until the day after the surprise gig in New York. McCartney took to the stage with a few other musicians as those in attendance tried to get a look-in at the legendary songwriter, who was spotted sporting a hoodie and sharing the microphone with the guitarist.
A now viral TikTok post has shed a light on McCartney's stage antics, where the 82-year-old, who is set to tour the UK later this year, performed briefly to a stunned crowd. Fellow musician Twam, real name Stephen Sifflard, posted a TikTok of McCartney performing The Beatles' hit I Saw Her Standing There.
Twam wrote: "When you play a show in the Hamptons and the 'surprise' late show after you ends up being Chad Smith, Andrew Watt, G.E. Smith, Charlotte Lawrence, and PAUL FKIN MCCARTNEY." Their excitement spread through the crowd with the whole room stunned to see the Band on the Run hitmaker on stage.
Musician Twam added: "Can't believe I got to play the same stage as these legends just a couple hours before. Truly insane." Though those in attendance were stunned by the performance there were a few detractors in the comments of the video who some say seethed with jealousy. One user wrote: "Poor Paul, voice is shredded." But another user replied: "Yeah, but with a song catalogue that EVERYONE knows, you can always count on the audience!"
Another user reveals they had stood right next to McCartney before he took the stage but did not realise until much later. He said: "I stood 2ft away from him at Talkhouse and didn’t even know it until someone showed me a picture the next day." A third openly admitted they were jealous of those in attendance, adding: "I am so jealous. What a magical experience to have. The most important man in music alive today randomly playing in a bar for free."
One user simply wrote: "I’ve never been more jealous." McCartney is set to play some venues with larger capacity over the next two months with four UK dates, two in Manchester and two in London, scheduled for the end of December. It will mark the first time since 2019 that McCartney has played an arena in the UK, with his previous performance being the headline slot of Glastonbury 2022.
