Broadcaster Piers Morgan has told fans that he spoke to president-elect Donald Trump just hours after it was announced that he'd won the 2024 presidential election.
Piers, 59, has a history with the politician, 78, after having won the Celebrity Apprentice back in 2008. The pair are thought to be long-time friends and the journalist has interviewed Trump on several occasions over the years.
This week, he provided commentary on the presidential election in the US, which was won by Trump. Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to choose the country's next leader. Trump was the Republican Party's nominee, whilst Kamala Harris was the nominee for the Democratic Party. It was announced on Wednesday morning that Trump had passed the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the election.
Hours after it was announced that Trump had won the election, Uncensored host Piers told his followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had personally spoken to him. He said in a tweet on the platform that Trump "sounded understandably weary but also utterly elated".
Piers wrote in a tweet: "Just spoke to President Trump and congratulated him on the greatest comeback in political history. He sounded understandably weary, but also utterly elated by the massive scale of his victory. 'This is quite something, right Piers?' Yes, Donald.. it is!"

Alongside a photo of them stood side-by-side, he wrote: "Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on the greatest comeback in political history. A testament to your resilience, mental strength & never-give-up mentality as your enemies tried to kill you, jail you & brand you the new Hitler. Good luck in your 2nd term. Unity > revenge!"
Many people expressed support in response to Piers' tweets, though many people are also disheartened by the result of the election. A number of celebrities, on both sides, have reacted to the result on Wednesday. Among those celebrating Trump's victory like Piers were Jake Paul and Zachary Levi. Jake said in his post: "The truth and god won in America. This is a massive step in the right direction to heal the major issues going on in the world currently."
Whilst others expressed disappointment at Harris having not won the election, including the View host Sunny Hostin and Jamie Lee Curtis. Sharing her thoughts, Jamie Lee told her followers in a post on Instagram: "Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied. Many, minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and trans people will be more afraid. We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve."
